Story
Over time, the business of life creeps in and even the most deeply committed couples can feel like they're living parallel lives rather than enjoying life together. Their once happily-ever-after can quickly turn into an endless grind of work, chores, errands, and carpool. And the pull of social media becomes more compelling than engaging with one's spouse. In this book, Dr. Greg and Erin Smalley offer practical ways to rekindle the passionate, intimate, heart-to-heart spark of connection between husbands and wives.

Way too much modern pop-psychology and woefully lacking use of scripture to back up his points. Ignores entire passages in scripture, and defers to modern feminist ideology like codependency, and confusing/contradicting chapters. Really poor overall and should be pulled off the shelf honestly. I’d recommend “Grace Marriage” as a much more appropriate and scripturally accurate/pastorally helpful book on marriage. Just as an example.

Story
We are constantly being formed by the world around us. To be formed by Jesus will require us to become his apprentice. To live by what the first Christian disciples called a Rule of Life—a set of practices and relational rhythms that slow us down and open up space in our daily lives for God to do what only God can do—transforms the deepest parts of us to become like him.

Gnosticism, legalism and Christianity?
Reviewed: 03-19-24
Overall, I think I agree largely with the authors point and heart on spiritual disciplines and the idea and importance of practicing the “way”. This is all presented though in a somewhat gnostic type fashion. Maybe self describing as a “mystic” is in some sense appropriate, as one who experiences God, but I have to say, couched in the rest of the context of this book, it comes across more as dualism or Gnosticism. The Gospel is the Gospel, and I was hoping for less new-age, monastic or other references and more exposition of scripture and exegesis… seems more like eisegesis.
