This is an amazing story of survival and resilience. Without telling you about the book, you must read it all the way to the end because there are so many lessons to learn from it. I highly admire the author!

Very entraining story and interesting learning about what was going on in Barcelona at the time. The story kept me engaged till the end. But I must say, some thing were not possible… but since it is fiction, it is all possible… I like the narrator a lot!

I learned a lot of history related to this Civil War in Spain and the children that were sent to Russia during that time. The book is well written, and the story flows. I suggest making it diagram of the characters of the book because when you listen to it, it could get a little confusing. I love how at the end, the author tied everything together.

I thought that the story was weak. It was filled with impossible situations and outcomes. I couldn’t get into the story till the last chapters… The narrator had a style that, to me, did not match the Chilean accent. Therefore, it was difficult to transport oneself to Chile all the way…

I loved learning about Hollywood in the 1930s. I learned facts about actors from those days, especially about Leslie Howard. It was very interesting to learn details about his personality, private life, and his involvement in world war two. I must say I did not know who Conchita Montenegro was… now I know. The book was very informative and entertaining at the same time. At the beginning, I was annoyed by the narrator, because it was as if she was giving the news. There was no emphasis or changes in her voice. Somehow she got better later into the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in knowing what was going on in Hollywood back in the 30s…

I loved this book. The author is such a sensitive man. I love the way he tells the story. I love the insights. I love the details. I love the depths. I also loved his other book The Covenant of Water! I also highly enjoyed the narrator. He was so good at changing voices and accents.

While reading about the life story of Trostky, the reader learns about the Russian Revolution. The first part of the book is full of details that for me were difficult to follow but I went along with it. The second part is very interesting since it is the life of Trostky in Mexico. The third part is more about the planning of Trostky's death and his assessination. The book tells the story of Trostky, his assessin and a man who learns about the story. As Communism begins to fall, there is a ot of questioning about the early idealism and the results of communism and socialism. The narrator does a great job using different voices all through the book. Eventhought, the beginning of the book is bit stark, I enjoyed the book more and more as the story developed.
