Narrator portrayed Lestat differently
Reviewed: 12-28-18
The narrator's accent took some time to get overcome. Mainly the way he pronounced Lestat's name was tough on my ears.
The first few interchanges with Lestat and Marius were really difficult to get past as Lestat seemed whiny and almost pathetic.
The story is really good however and once decided the narrator was only trying to portray Lestat's emotions, his deep, heart felt love and feelings for life and everything... well then I was able to allow the story to flow.
I would prefer a different narrator, but the story was well worth listen to this one.

Story
Tensions are mounting after a devastating battle before the walls of Shaliyah, birthplace of the Prophet. The East is rising, bringing equal measures of hope and despair to the magical world of Urte. For some, Salim's victory is a call to arms; for others it is evidence of a world gone mad. While the armies of East and West clash in brutal conflict, emperors, inquisitors, Souldrinkers, and assassins all have their attention turned elsewhere as they hunt the Scytale of Corineus.

Another gripping tale in the series

I love the way Robin Hobb pits together a story! The only complaint I could muster would be a couple of voice the narrator chose, specifically Dutiful and Reyn's voices... Lent's is annoying but I am okay with that as he isn't a character in previous tales. Dutiful's is less annoying because it can be attributed to a child's growing up, but the way the narrator portrays Reyn, it seems whiny and kind of slimmy, sniveling maybe that is the word, at the Sam time and I never thought Reyn should be like that at all. He always seemed more like the guy you want in charge, like a controlled, calculating, unaffected by social pressure, going to do what is right no matter the cost - type of character.
But the story... OMG, the storyline is terrific!

Story
FitzChivalry - royal bastard and former king’s assassin - has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire. Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past...and his future.
