I love the old fashioned style!

This was read as it would have been done before television was available. The story kept me engaged especially being based on true crime. Highly recommend this book.

Story
In Under This Roof, award-winning White House journalist Paul Brandus weaves together stories of the presidents, their families, the events of their time, and an oft-ignored major character, the White House itself. From George Washington to the current occupant, Barack Obama - the story of the White House is the story of America itself, Brandus writes.

Brief history of our Presidents

I confess to not knowing much about past Presidents. This book allowed me a glimpse of most of them and a starting point to get to know those that inspire or interest me more. It was well presented and the narrator was perfect for the story. I undoubtedly will listen again and again.

Story
In the summer of 1985, a brilliant young British DNA scientist Helena Greenwood is found murdered in her front garden in a quiet suburb in California. The police believe they know the killer’s identity but there’s no evidence against him, and the only thing linking him to the crime is the fact he’d been charged with sexually assaulting Helena just a few months previously.

Criminal justice reform

This story and its findings raise a great question about our justice system. I can’t say one way or the other about this case for sure but I am sure our justice system is deeply flawed. The idea that anyone could be put behind bars for a crime they did not commit is horrifying.
