Story
A quiet corner of Wales becomes the centre of a murder investigation when the bodies of a retired couple are found near the shore of a reservoir. Police try to establish the methods and motives of their attacker by careful examination of the crime scene. And, bizarrely, fishing flies are found in the victims' mouths. The investigation into people connected to the area begins to focus on a family farm. But how were the victims connected to it?

Not my favorite of the series.

Not my favorite of the series. The family of all the victims are uniformly UNLIKEABLE and annoying, each in their own way, and the book spends way too much time with them and too little with the detectives. The narrator’s method of speaking is very trying. His voice and vocal mannerisms for Rain, Meadow’s brother, is irritating to the point of being unbearable. I had to fast forward through his dialogue. Yes, it is that bad.

Story
In her ruefully funny and wickedly perceptive debut novel, Alison Espach deftly dissects matters of the heart and captures the lives of children and adults as they come to terms with life, death, and love. At the center of this affluent suburban universe is Emily Vidal, a smart and snarky teenager, who gets involved in a suspect relationship with one of the adults after witnessing a suicide in her neighborhood.

Why oh why didn’t I read other reviews!

If you want to listen to the whiny, immature ramblings of a pre-adolescent for hours upon hours….this is the book for you! I am SO DISAPPOINTED. I had just finished the same author’s The Wedding People, which I adored. I couldn’t wait to inhabit the worlds of other (relatable adult) characters by the same author. But this book is grating, boring, irritating, and completely irrelevant to anyone over 19 years of age. The adults are portrayed as incredibly unlikeable paper thin cutouts, the narrator an incredibly unlikeable, self-absorbed pre-teen. BUMMED.

Story
Being on the murder squad is nothing like Detective Antoinette Conway dreamed it would be. Her partner, Stephen Moran, is the only person who seems glad she's there. The rest of her working life is a stream of thankless cases, vicious pranks, and harassment. Antoinette is savagely tough, but she's getting close to the breaking point. Their new case looks like yet another by-the-numbers lovers' quarrel gone bad. Aislinn Murray is blond, pretty, groomed to a shine, and dead in her catalogue-perfect living room, next to a table set for a romantic dinner.

So good.
So creative, well-written, engrossing……listened to all 22 hours virtually straight.
I have loved all Tana French’ books, but this one is way above and beyond the best yet.

I have faithfully listened to this series over multiple novels. I have given 5 star reviews up until now. However, this and all further novels have become unbearable to listen to/ read. The abject stupidity, ingratitude, gullibility……did I say STUPIDITY?! Of the heroine Lydia has left me screaming for her to be killed (for real) ASAP. What the hell os wrong with this woman???? Ruined the series for me.

Love the series in general. This was the worst, least engaging by far. I found myself skipping ahead and being very bored. Sad I lost a credit for it.
