Story
In his own day the dominant personality of the Western Church, Augustine of Hippo today stands as perhaps the greatest thinker of Christian antiquity, and his Confessions is one of the great works of Western literature. Now modern listeners will have easier access to St. Augustine's deeply personal meditations. Chadwick's lucid translation and helpful introduction clear the way for a new experience of this classic.

Wonderful reading of a wonderful masterpiece

The narrator is so clear and his voice has the gravitas the text deserves. A love letter to God and an examination of his own conversion can teach us all so much.

Even better than Vindolanda. You can feel the salt air and the agony of battle.

Well written and narrator is great but…

I did not realize when I bought this audiobook that the author is a bitter former Catholic, whose mission was to destroy Moore’s image. I also think that the way that some characters talk about the Catholic mass is not historically accurate. I know this is a dramatization, but I find it hard to believe that anyone in England would’ve said many of these things. The narrator is incredible with his ability to have specific voices for each character that kept my interest the whole way.
