Probably Won't Finish
Reviewed: 11-12-10
I probably won't finish this one. I usually like Julia London books but the heroine Keira and her cousin Lily got on my nerves! They were silly, disobedient, vain and annoying. Maybe it gets better toward the end but I'm not inclined to find out. Keira just does whatever she wants, no matter the consequences.

Story
Jo Beverley is a New York Times best-selling author whose lush romances have earned her a place in the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. An Unwilling Bride traces an unlikely match between two headstrong people. In order to keep his vast estates in the family, the Duke of Belcraven must find a suitable bride for Lucien de Vaux, his only heir. But the woman he chooses for Lucien has plans of her own. It will take more than simple romance to turn this arrangement into a fairy tale wedding.

Not One Of Jo Beverly's Best

I usually enjoy Jo Beverly's books but Unwilling Bride had too much antagonism between the couple for too long- 2/3's of the book. I enjoy Romance novels as a pleasant escape from reality. Lucien's violent actions/feelings toward Beth and her fear of him were pretty tiresome after a while. I can't believe the author wrote into a romance novel that he backhanded her. Geez, if I wanted to read about domestic violence I would have bought a newspaper. Also, I don't particularly care for books in which the heroine is plain and the hero is handsome. As for the narrator sometimes he sounded like he was slurping. I would not recommend this book to anyone and I'm sorry I bought it.
