Story
Have you ever felt like there was something inside of you pushing your actions? A dormant beast, so to speak. I know it sounds crazy. But, that’s the best way I could describe how I’ve felt for a long time. I thought it was normal, some animal part of the human brain that lingered from evolution. But, this is the story of how I learned I wasn’t exactly human, and there was a world underneath our own where all the things that go bump in the night live. And, that my beast was very real indeed.

Excellent Narration For a Great Book
Reviewed: 10-02-22
I've read the book and now I'm listening to the audible narration.
I'm very partial to books that are narrated by a male for the male parts and a female for the female parts.
I've read all the books in the series and they are all very good, so if you're looking for a five book series to enjoy this won't disappoint.

My twin brother has started to go mad, and my powers are the cause. Nobody knows how to stop it, and all the facts are telling me that unless I can cure him, my brother is very likely going to try and kill me soon. And that's just how this whole mess starts. From there I run face first into a whole stack of problems, including a crazy werewolf girl, a large pack of flesh-eating ghouls, and a trip to the greatest repository of magical knowledge in the world, where someone like me is definitely not welcome.

My twin brother is a Wizard and thinks he's the only magician in the family. It's actually a little funny that he hasn't suspected anything different over the last 17 years - with my constantly need to keep his idiot face out of danger and stupidity - but that's not today's problem. You see, someone's trying to kill him.

Summoned to a world in the midst of apocalypse, Daniel Black would have his hands full just staying alive. Add in refugees, desperate soldiers, scheming nobles and a pair of thoroughly wicked witches, and life is going to be very busy indeed. Good thing he has magic of his own to even the scales. But will even that be enough?

One Of My Favorite Stories

if it tells you anything I read this book then I listened to it and a few months later I listened again.
Narration is great, really appreciate when a woman narrates the feminine parts.
One of the things that I like about this book is that it's all story with just enough Romance to make it interesting. I don't like books that are all sex but I like some romance in my books too .
No spoilers but the end is great. And hey it's a 3 book series although this is the only one on Audible
The other two books are very good too.

My name is James, but my mom’s the only person that can call me that. To everyone else, I’m JD — a struggling artist, working my fingers to the bone for my shot with one of the big comic book companies. Oh, and I work nights, managing a dive called Judson’s Bar and Grill. I know: the dream life. Things were boring, disappointing, even. Until one fateful night when everything changed.

Narration Spoiled
Reviewed: 02-06-22
Great story, and magic system this is one of the best books of the year.
This book has me spoiled
With a man covering the male parts and a woman doing the female parts., it works really well.
Now I'm not in the mood for books with just one narrator covering both sexes
Gabriel and Jessica are first rate

Change Speed to 1.10

As soon as I started listening to this I pumped up the speed to 1.10x
Sounds really good, not speeded up.
I see al ot of complaints about the narration. At 10% faster solves that problem.
I'm at chapter 31 and the book is continuing to be inventive and interesting.
Have fun!

Story
"Kill. Kill them all." It's the first four words Lars usually wakes up to every morning, a voice telling him she's just giving him a "quest" that will help him "level". But even if he wanted to do it, he can't. They're cultivators: beings with ancestral bloodlines that have powers he could only dream of, while he is stuck as a puny human. Even if he could kill them, the people who bullied him, beat him, treated him like a punch-bag pariah for being a "tailless worthless human", he wouldn't. That is, until a vicious group of murderous psychopaths called a "sect" descend on his village.
