Thank you, Ms. Turner, for sharing your family, friends and experiences with us. You show that we are all fragile, strong and flawed. This book is a treasure.

A true and gutting story written by a man sold into slavery. Every American should read this book. It’s an important history lesson

Fascinating look at early sailing and the trials and horror of being on a ship in the 1700s. I loved the narrator.

A witty and painful read. I appreciate the author’s honesty and willingness to reveal the hard truths of being true to you when you are so very different from the mainstream. I loved this book.

This is a beautifully written, performed treasure of a memoir. She sings, chuckles and lays it all bare. My favorite listen this year. Thank you Brandie!

Author Kate Moore narrates this book beautifully. Absolutely riveting and horrifying. It wasn’t so long ago that women were the property of their husbands and had no rights. Highly recommend this book

Thank you Ms.Thomas for writing this incredible book. Thank you, Ms Turpin for your fantastic narration. I had all the feels with this book. I was shocked, appalled, sad, nodding in agreement and some times I laughed out loud. Very real, well written and wonderful characters. I highly recommend.

This is my first experience with this author. I wonderful story that is so human- funny, heartbreaking, maddening. The characters are people you know and can totally relate to, regardless of your race, ethnicity, nationality or upbringing. The two narrators are perfect in there inflection and accent.
