Where do I go to get my wasted time back?
Reviewed: 08-22-23
I love Norton’s stories and Time travel books. I admire and have read or listened to almost all her work. Echoes in Time was a mishmash of plots, alien, races, and inexplicable, poor writing. I can’t believe Norton did much of the writing. This must be a Baldies plot to destroy her reputation.

More of a fantasy story - repetitious, fights and dangers that are miraculously, overcome. Very detailed, sexual encounters - not for children.

Story
The planet Logis was a violent world, where “bloodtime” made a duel to the death a legal way to settle the smallest quarrel. On this dangerous world, in the street at bloodtime, Dumarest met the woman Kalin - Kalin of the flame-red hair, with eyes that shone like pools of green fire. Kalin, who could see the future. The people of many worlds hated her, and called her “witch.” A few sought to possess her, to enslave her talent for their own gain. Dumarest held her, for love of her, and for the faint memory she held of a planet called Earth.

History happens all around you. And, occasionally, to you. I could have been a bomb-disposal expert, or a volunteer for the Mars mission, or a firefighter, something safe and sensible. But, no, I had to be an historian. It began well. A successful assignment to 17th century Cambridge to meet Isaac Newton, and another to witness the historic events at The Gates of Grief. So far so good.

It was so poorly written that I can’t believe the child wrote it!
Reviewed: 05-21-22
I love the series, and have read/listen to most of the books.
Since this is the first one in chronological order I was very excited to get the early background on Reacher’s military career. Child does not have a background in the military and it showed! I was in the US Army and found his plot and actions by Officers just. fantasy.
The plot was ridiculous with a tremendous number of false leads. It got boring and predictable.
Well, maybe you need a bad Apple to appreciate the good ones.

Story
Hugh had been taught that, according to the ancient sacred writings, the Ship was on a voyage to faraway Centaurus. But he also understood this was just allegory for a voyage to spiritual perfection. Indeed, how could the Ship move, since its miles and miles of metal corridors were all there was of creation? Science knew that the Ship was all the universe, and as long as the sacred Converter was fed, the lights would continue to glow, the air would flow, and the Creator's Plan would be fulfilled.

Interesting, but not one of his best.
Reviewed: 12-24-21
I’ve read and reread Heinlein’s books and stories. This is not one of his best. The plot is very interesting, but the actions of the characters often are not realistic or believable. The ending seems to have just been tagged on to finish the story. Too many highly improbable actions. When Heinlein has to point out - in the story ! - how improbable the odds are, over and over again, that this or that happened, he is apologizing for the storyline.
