Boring and drawn out

I loved the series until this one. Such a snooze. Boring, drawn out. Pretty silly. No real storyline like the previous ones to keep you engaged.

Story
Isla Larsen Sanchez's life begins to unravel when her father passes away. Instead of being comforted at home in New Jersey, her mother starts leaving her in Puerto Rico with her great-aunt each summer, like a piece of forgotten luggage. It is only when Isla turns eighteen, and her grandmother, a great storyteller, dies, that Isla discovers she has a gift. The tales of dead family storytellers are brought back to life, replaying themselves over and over in front of her.

Really enjoyed listening! The backdrop of Puerto Rico was so nice. It took me back to visiting there, especially the rainforest. I would love to read all her books, very unexpected!

I really enjoy all her stories, especially the Sullivans Crossing series. Always easy to follow, exciting and enjoyable. Also she writes men the way all women wish and hope for. Can’t go wrong there ;)

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

This book reminds me so much of Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. If you haven’t, please read that one. I work in the recovery field and it’s always interesting to hear the stories from the other side. Loved it!

Story
Lorraine Kindred's most cherished memories are of the Surf Ballroom, the place where youth lost themselves to the brassy sounds and magnetic energy of the big band swing, where boys spent their last nights before shipping off to war-and where Lorraine herself was swept away by a star-crossed romance. Returning to the ballroom for the first time in decades, Lorraine enters a dazzling world she thought long vanished.
