Story
Neil King Jr.’s desire to walk from Washington, D.C., to New York City began as a whim and soon became an obsession. By the spring of 2021, events had intervened that gave his desire greater urgency. His neighborhood still reeled from the January 6th insurrection. Covid lockdowns and a rancorous election had deepened America’s divides. Neil himself bore the imprints of a long battle with cancer.

Great writer. Wonderful story to listen to. Simply loved it!! A perfect mix of history, geography, culture and the author meeting ordinary and unordinary people from his walk from DC to NYC. I have recommended it to several even before having finished it and will continue to do so. BRAVO Neil King Jr! What spectacular idea!

Story
Peter Beard lived an astonishing life. The artist, wildlife photographer, and bon vivant enthralled and inspired both because of his work and his legendary lifestyle. In Twentieth-Century Man, Wallace has rendered this towering figure in all of his contradictions and complexities—a deeply romantic and idiosyncratic personality, beloved by so many, whose sensibilities nonetheless remained firmly rooted in an era characterized by racist and colonialist attitudes. Stirring and visceral, Twentieth-Century Man is the definitive portrait of Peter Beard.

At the end of the Vietnam War, when Beth Nguyen was eight months old, she and her father, sister, grandmother, and uncles fled Saigon for America. Memoires of regular citizens with a story to recount is a fascinating genre. I found it very, very interesting especially since I have visited Vietnam recently and I am a mother of 3. I have recommended it to many and am asking my family to read it because we all traveled to Vietnam together. To hear a Vietnamese refugee’s side of the story was very interesting. Highly recommend it.

Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

My hope and wish is that some day soon, Harry and Meghan and Harry’s extended family can mend their grievances and disappointments so King Charles, William, Harry and spouses can come together and watch the 5 precious grandchildren play together in a beautiful English garden and all toast to the love and blessings of these 5 children.

Story
Most of us never get to test ourselves in combat. As a UH-1 Helicopter pilot flying in the jungle highlands of South Vietnam, Warrant Officer Jim Crigler and the men he flew with were tested daily. Coming of age in the late 1960s and early 1970s was challenging for most young men of that era. Throw in drugs, free love, draft notices, the Vietnam War, and a country deeply divided, and you have one of the most important books of this genre. This true story is a raw, bold, introspective autobiography.

Thank you Jim for writing your memoir. What an incredible story that is extremely thought provoking regarding politics, war, innocent victims, love, relationships, youth, death, friendship, wise words, timing, luck, brotherhood, and much, much more. It is a read that makes me want to start the book all over again. From your Vancouver Island retreat pal😉-G

Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Throughout her rise to fame and during some of the most pivotal moments of her life, Demi battled addiction, body image issues, and childhood trauma that would follow her for years - all while juggling a skyrocketing career and at times negative public perception.

Like the vast majority of Demi’s listeners, I had no idea what Demi’s childhood was like. My heart broke time after time hearing about the extreme dysfunction that existed in her childhood home. I found myself wanting to buy the hard cover so I could pour over so, so many of her beautifully penned lines. Rather than 6+ hours to listen to it, it probably took 10+ hours for I needed to soak in more deeply many of those beautifully penned pages. What a project Demi! YOU DID IT! BRAVO!
