Story
In 1982, Peter Robinson was hired as a speechwriter in the Reagan White House. One of a core group of writers who became informal experts on Reagan, Robinson absorbed not just the president's politics but his manner and way of carrying himself. And the example Reagan set, as a confident, principled, generous-spirited older man who inspired those around him, molded Robinson just as he was coming into his own.

Though by no means a historical document, this biik presents basic precepts that would be well learned for every American.

Story
War can settle disputes, topple tyrants, and bend the trajectory of civilization—sometimes to the breaking point. From Troy to Hiroshima, moments when war has ended in utter annihilation have reverberated through the centuries, signaling the end of political systems, cultures, and epochs. Though much has changed over the millennia, human nature remains the same. In The End of Everything, military historian Victor Davis Hanson narrates a series of sieges and sackings that span the age of antiquity to the conquest of the New World to show how societies descend into barbarism and obliteration.

There is nothing so new as the history we've forgotten

This was an excellent telling of stories of past cultures and how they underestimated their capacity to withstand outside forces.

Story
When he set out to play each of Golf Digest’s 100 greatest American golf courses in one year, Jimmie James knew he was attempting the impossible. But then again, he’d spent his entire life defying the odds. Playing from the Rough is a remarkable memoir of race, class, family, and the power of perseverance, as James braids his love of golf with reflections on the path that took him from childhood poverty to the most exclusive and opulent golf courses in America.

I thought this was a book about a golf journey. But instead found a book about inclusion and DEI.

Story
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Just listened to my 1st Harry Potter book.

Inspired by a trip to London in 10 days, I have just finished my first Harry Potter Audible book. The writing was exceptional and pulled the story forward from beginning to end. And the narrator made it all the more interesting painting a great voice picture to go with the words. Highly recommended.
