Story
Dana Spiotta's new novel is about two women, best friends, who grow up in LA in the '80s and become filmmakers. Meadow and Carrie have everything in common - except their views on sex, power, moviemaking, and morality. Their lives collide with Jelly, a loner whose most intimate experience is on the phone. Jelly is older, erotic, and mysterious. She cold calls powerful men and seduces them not through sex but through listening. She invites them to reveal themselves, and they do.

I read this novel and listen to it :-) after having done the same with Wayward her previous novel these are wonders to me I am pulled into characters and people in a way that few authors can create atmospherics and want me want us to be a part of these worlds that all sounds terribly trite I wish I could better describe how much I love the world that's biota creates for us but they are wonderful and these characters that are such a mix of Good and Evil disinterest passion self-centeredness and just muddling through she was able to create a moral World from people that are stumbling through their morality none of it is preaching and yet they provide these characters are sermon upon sermon I really love these stories....

Story
Samantha Raymond's life has begun to come apart: her mother is ill, her teenage daughter is increasingly remote, and at fifty-two she finds herself staring into "the Mids"—that hour of supreme wakefulness between three and four in the morning in which women of a certain age suddenly find themselves contemplating motherhood, mortality, and, in this case, the state of our unraveling nation.

best book I read in 2021

I heard a recommendation of this book on National Public Radio the moment that I started reading it I was pulled into a world I never ever thought that I might be interested in and with every page I found myself more fascinated by the main character's life and mostly so inspired by her sense of reinvention and Independence and Liberation that she was able to manage this novel is one of the best perhaps I've ever read and I've read quite a lot. the setting the contemporaneous this of it the atmospherics the character development really I hope this is made into a movie but at the same time perhaps no because it seems that once as if it's a nineteenth-century classic that's been brought into the 21st century using modern terminology there wasn't anything superficial about this novel it perfectly perfectly captured hour. Of time

I actually thought this would be a larger piece of Ruskin literature than it was but for the few cents that I spent on it it was worth wild listening to.

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.
