Story
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

I never once felt a connection with Lara. The author does a disservice by not letting us experience with Lara what it was like to grow up the way she did. Instead, we get to watch her stumble about as she willfully ignores all evidence that is contrary to the story she's been spoon-fed to her all her life. Sacrificing herself to save her sisters is noble, until she is willing to sacrifice the people of her new home. Trading the lives of her new people for the lives of her old is abhorrent to witness.
And Aren, the greatest fool of them all, is led around by a pretty female face. Aren may have been wary at times of his new bride, but he did not endear himself to me by giving Lara the spy everything she needed to nearly destroy his kingdom. I like at the end where he nearly kills her; I'm sad he missed. I wish that even if Lara manages to save Aren and his kingdom, which of course she will, that he still chooses not to be with her. Righting the consequences of her actions is not paying penance. Why would we want to see her get her HEA? I would rather Aran find a new woman and have Lara have to watch him be with someone else.
TL;DR: She is stupid. He is stupid. Their willful ignorance costs many lives. I should quit reading books about new adults.

But he agreed to be her bridesmate (her male maid of honor), and a promise is a promise. I'm a little bit of a salty wench.

We don't ever get to see the actual apology of Will. I resent a little bit that everyone but Cooper and I get to see this grand gesture. Even in stories with a HEA, making sure there is closure of old wounds is still important. There's more that I could complain about, but I don't want to subject you to that.
Give it a listen though. My saltiness shouldn't prevent you from enjoying this short story. The narrator did an excellent job.

I very much enjoyed the radio drama aspect of the story. However, that is the only thing to like. In what world is this female character likable? I didn't even make to the end.
From the beginning, she acts like she's single, flirting with the guy from her hometown. Then she makes mistakes and, instead of immediately trying to mitigate hurt feelings and misunderstandings, she buries her head like she's five years old. She gets jealous that her fiance talked another containment; if you're that inspector, you shouldn't be watching the show. Her mom is the worst.
I suppose the most annoying part is that actually staying with her Bridegroom would have been less predictable than the boring teacher going home to settle down with an old flame. At least I got this book for free.

I was hesitant to purchase the audiobook because I didn't immediately like the narrators voice, but I persevered. Thank goodness I did because she did a great job. I really enjoyed when she did an announcer's voice. I can't say I loved how she did Connor "Mad" Rogan's voice, but that is my problem.
As for the story, what is there to say apart from it's Ilona Andrews. Of course I loved it! I pulled an all nighter playing on my phone while I listened to the story. I love all the characters, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Nevada's practicality, which sounds ridiculous. Sadly, I often get angry at characters who go off blundering into investigations and put themselves into ridiculous, farcical situations that could have been avoided with a modicum of intelligence. I hate when that is used as a plot device to keep stories "interesting." I'll stop ranting now.
I loved the magic and intelligence. I laughed out loud, although I do that often anyway, or so I'm told. The story ended on a good cliffhanger that doesn't make you pull your hair out. However, that point is moot because all the books are currently out. I hope they come back to this series eventually, so I guess there is a cliffhanger after all.
