Story
“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Double Vision: I wish I had skipped this one.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I really wanted to like this one. I just couldn't do it.
The Thrawn being smarter than everyone is definitely getting old, and it was only exacerbated by the Darth Vader/Anakin perspectives.
I hope this concludes the Thrawn series and Mr. Zahn tries his hand at an alternative storyline where he isn't so boxed in with his narrative.
The narrator does a pretty good job even if his Padme voice was a little hard to get through, I may go on to check his other stuff out.
If you have to know all the details the Star Wars universe spills out, you're going to read the book - it's much better than Wendig's novels and way better than the worst SW book I've read recently (Last Shot).

Story
On the alien, sunless planet they call Eden, the 532 members of the Family shelter beneath the light and warmth of the Forest's lantern trees. Beyond the Forest lie the mountains of the Snowy Dark and a cold so bitter and a night so profound that no man has ever crossed it. The Oldest among the Family recount legends of a world where light came from the sky, where men and women made boats that could cross the stars. These ships brought us here, the Oldest say - and the Family must only wait for the travelers to return.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this book for the wife and I to listen to on a trip...
I was very pleased with the story, but it was really brought to life by the wonderful narrating. I would gladly listen to this again in the future!

Story
For years, the third moon in the Alphane system was used as a psychiatric hospital. But when war broke out between Earth and the Alphanes, the hospital was left unguarded and the inmates set up their own society, made up of competing factions based on their particular mental illnesses. When Earth sends a delegation to take back the colony, they find enclaves of depressives, schizophrenics, paranoiacs, and others uniting to repel what they see as a foreign invasion.

Classic Sci-Fi

Philip K. Dick's books are slightly dated with their view of the near to distant future, but the story is engaging and keeps you interested throughout. The narrator does a very good job as well.

Young Adult but enjoyable for the grown ups!

I wasn't very impressed with with the Alcatraz series, but I can't help but read anything that Brandon Sanderson writes so I gave this a shot. Sanderson is in his typical form and despite the young adult audience, he creates another wonderful world and keeps you interested throughout the whole book. Michael Kramer, whom I think is probably the most talented narrator around, delivers another strong performance. I can't wait for the next book, but I hope the next Stormlight book comes out first!

Almost a thriller?

Will Wheaton does an outstanding job with the narration despite Scalzi's almost too often sarcasm/clever banter. Don't get me wrong, the banter is most of the reason I read Scalzi, but it almost seems to get in the way of ever having meaningful dialogue. If you like Scalzi's other work, you'll really enjoy this book!
