Story
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Volume too low for busy places.

Highest volume too low to listen at gym, restaurant, or other semi-noisy places. Disappointing not to be able to enjoy audiobooks in regular locations.

Story
Let’s face it: Recent years have been tough on optimists. Hopes that the Internet might bring people together have been crushed by the ills of social media. Is there a way back? As head of TED, Chris Anderson has had a ringside view of the world’s boldest thinkers sharing their most uplifting ideas. Inspired by them, he believes that it’s within our grasp to turn outrage back into optimism. It all comes down to reimagining one of the most fundamental human virtues: generosity. What if generosity could become infectious generosity?

Beautiful, so inspiring!!!

Just what I was looking for to uplift and guide us about helping the planet and each other. Not just about the problems, that’s easy, but how we can and are contributing; and at the same time how to feel good about ourselves.

Bad recording, not edited
Reviewed: 12-28-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Better reader, actually editing it. There were many, many repeated lines and the reading was so rushed that it made me anxious while I listened, not just through parts but the whole book.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The story was typical Jane Austen, who's other books I have thoroughly enjoyed. I don't think it was the story but the presentation. I'm going to look for another recording.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jane Leclercq’s performances?
Definitely not. I have written down her name so that I don't make that mistake again. I am usually a very easy person to please but listening to this book was so painful that I want to warn others.
What character would you cut from Emma?
Doesn't apply
