Story
Revolutionary for the time in encouraging children to think like children, the adventure of Princess Irene and Curdie, the boy miner, was to influence generations of writers, including Chesterton and Tolkien. Overflowing with fantastic ideas and images to delight the young and allegory to inspire their morality ‘The Princess and the Goblin’ has remained one of the most exciting tales for over 100 years.Irene lives in a castle on a mountain under which there is a labyrinth of tunnels inhabited by Goblins.

Imaginative and fun

I’m an adult first-time listener, and I loved this. It has all the charm and imagination of childhood, but I always felt safe in the skilled author’s hands. A work of art!

Slow Build but Worth the Twist

Wow. I had no idea how Sanderson could resolve this book and still have a third book after, but I am beside myself with the payoff. Definitely worth the listen.

Agnes is a wild creature who walks her family’s land with a falcon on her glove and is known throughout the countryside for her unusual gifts as a healer, understanding plants and potions better than she does people. Once she settles with her husband on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, she becomes a fiercely protective mother and a steadfast, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband, whose career on the London stage is taking off when his beloved young son succumbs to sudden fever.

Exquisite work of art

Ms. O’Farrell’s storytelling reminds me of intricate lace: delicate threads of words woven into lovely patterns that breathe wind and light throughout. A truly stunning work. The story is gripping, beautiful, and raw: so real is the mother’s pain, I almost had to put it down; so strong her spirit, I’m glad I didn’t.

Story
For decades environmentalists have told us that using fossil fuels is a self-destructive addiction that will destroy our planet. Yet by every measure of human well-being, from life expectancy to clean water to climate safety, life has been getting better and better. How can this be? The explanation is that we usually hear only one side of the story. We're taught to think only of the negatives of fossil fuels, their risks and side effects, but not their positives.

An informative and reasonable argument to take another look at fossil fuels. Why would anyone's standard of value not be human life?

It was hard to commit to this book knowing how much has changed. It's an ok story in it's own right and nostalgic because I read them as a child, but it struggled to hold my attention as an adult.
