Great book. Just don’t listen to it.

The book itself is fantastic. Highly recommended you read it. But skip the Audible version. As long as the narrator is telling the story, it’s fine. But once she tries a character’s voice, speaking in the dialect of a Japanese or Malaysian or any human, it starts grating on your nerves. Like nails on a chalkboard. A bad Mel Blanc impression.

You know the story. Why else would you be reading reviews. Great book. The performance sucks hippo weinie. It's like the guy's larynx is broken. Or he just got hit in the head with a brick. Listen to the sample, then move on to something else.

if you know Slocum then you know his are some of the finest sea tales you'll ever run across. up there with Dana, Melville, etc. but this. just can not stomach his whining voice. slowing it down helps some but is it enough to finish? time will tell.

Very weak with no ending
Reviewed: 12-29-18
What starts out as an average mystery thriller slowly drags on into a “I don’t care whodunnit”. Or why. Somewhat decent setup doesn’t go anywhere. More questions than answers with an ending that just leaves a bad taste in your mouth instead of you wanting more. If you have absolutely nothing else to read or listen to then have someone hold a gun to your head and let them force you to read this. Otherwise skip it.
