Story
Defense attorney Mickey Haller is back, taking the long shot cases, where the chances of winning are one in a million. He agrees to represent a woman in prison for killing her husband, a sheriff’s deputy. Despite her conviction four years earlier, she still maintains her innocence. Haller enlists his half brother, retired LAPD Detective Harry Bosch, as investigator. Reviewing the case, Bosch sees something that doesn’t add up, and a sheriff’s department intent on bringing a quick search for justice in the killing of one of its own.

Fantastic!

Wow, one of the best Haller or Bosch books and even better that it’s both as a reluctant team. Really well done and hard to push pause.

Story
So begins a press release from a mysterious group known only as “The Five,” shortly after a vicious predator is murdered in San Francisco. The Five is made up of vigilante killers who are very bored…and very rich. They target the worst of society—rapists, murderers, and thieves—and then use their unlimited resources to offset the damage done by those who they’ve killed, donating untraceable Bitcoin to charities and victims via the dark net. The Five soon become popular figures in the media …though their motives may not be entirely pure.

That was a fantastic story, and I’m really impressed that after this many books in the series John Sanford is still keeping each story fresh and not falling into patterns to churn them out. Can’t wait for the next one!

Story
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Highly detailed but left a gap at the end
Reviewed: 12-20-18
The main reason I got the book was to hear about the last Aagon’s life and war etc. leading up to the start of Game of Thrones, but this covered every detail of the Targaryens except that. Well done otherwise.

So good, then so so

The first half was amazing and built up so well, and the second half had a really cool premise and characters. But it just seemed to end so anticlimactically. Still very much worth listening to though.
