Listened to the whole series twice

Not only was this an amazing sci fi adventure series, but it really gets you to think deeply about the effects of technology on the human brain and society as a whole. Wrap it all up with Jason Segal’s fantastic narration and you’ve got some prime reading/listening material. Great series for teens and adults alike! This is a subject we should all be discussing the ethics of. 10/10 would read again.

Story
The Carls just appeared. Coming home from work at three a.m., 23-year-old April May stumbles across a giant sculpture. Delighted by its appearance and craftsmanship - like a 10-foot-tall Transformer wearing a suit of samurai armor - April and her friend Andy make a video with it, which Andy uploads Online. The next day April wakes up to a viral video and a new life. News quickly spreads that there are Carls in dozens of cities around the world - everywhere from Beijing to Buenos Aires - and April, as their first documentarian, finds herself at the center of an intense media spotlight.

Beautiful

This book...moved me. I don’t know how else to put it. I think this is such an incredible way to get young people interested in the effects and consequences of fame, social media, social and political extremism, and just human interaction and the lack thereof all together. I can’t wait to casually mention this book to my son everyday for the next two weeks until he inevitably picks it up. And I’m excited to see what’s in store in the sequel. Thank you Hank this was truly a remarkable thing.
