Story
I've been living in a small town working for the vampires for the last six months. All I want is to save up enough to open an apothecary so I don't have to heal the neckers anymore. Of course, nothing in my life can be that simple. Two detectives show up at my door asking questions about a dead girl and trying to pin the murder on my employer. Next thing I know, I'm dodging fireballs in parking lots.

Narrator was good

I like it when a narrator reads the story as though she’s telling her own story. But that was the only thing I could appreciate in regards to this book. I think what really got me was the romance. The male MC was manipulative, controlling and selfishly seeking to meet his own needs. And of course the female MC fell in love with that.

Sorry, I couldn’t finish this. I think that if I got to chapter 9, and it still does not engage my interest, then there is no point in pursuing it any further. For the first nine chapters, it was primary backstory and everything the team had to go through with training. Those few chapters I listen to were a struggle to get through. The narrator sounded like she was about to go to sleep.

Just a romance
Reviewed: 03-14-25
The second book of this trilogy was very boring to me. Several times I came very close to just stop reading, but since it was the second book of a trilogy, I pushed my way through. There were too many mushy romantic scenes. Gemma was enslaved to her hormones, and Leonidas allowed himself to be manipulated by his mother too often.

Aviva Fleischer hides a dangerous secret. She’s carefully concealing her infernal heritage, a.k.a. Cherry Bomb. Maybe it’s weird naming her demon side and referring to her in the third person, but guys do the same with their junk, and unlike most of them, Avi isn’t deluded about Cherry’s prowess.

Good story rotten Romance
Reviewed: 02-15-25
It was a good story. I got through the first two books of the series. I just got so irritated and frustrated over the constant bickering of the two main characters and all the secrets they kept. I normally like enemies to lovers type romances, but this was too much. I like to see the romance turn into support of each other not this constant pulling at each other. I won’t be pursuing the series.

They're marrying me off to a monster. I knew the day would come. I just didn't think it would be so soon. I'm betrothed. I'd always imagined my future husband would be some minor lord who'd value me only because I would bear him heirs. I never thought Father would go to the capital and seek an audience with Emperor Valdon Duthriss himself. What unholy deal did he make that I, a mere baron's daughter, ended up betrothed to that man?

Just another vampire romance
Reviewed: 11-14-24
I really tried to finish this, but after 30 chapters, I couldn’t tolerate it any further. I didn’t like the
Heroine. She appeared to passively participate in her life. The hero was another irresistible tortured being that the heroine just could not resist. Overall, it was just boring. I gave two stars for the performance since they used two performers, but that’s the only reason.

A good escape
Reviewed: 11-12-24
I was looking for something where I could escape from reality for several days and this made a good choice. A strong heroine, although she tended to beat herself up too much in my opinion. There were a few erotica scenes which I’m not a big fan. I tend to speed through those because they’re not really permanent to the story. By the seventh book I was ready for the series to be done. There are some series that I hate to see the end, but not in this case. I was ready to call it quits. The performance was excellent very dramatic.

Female warrior?
Reviewed: 05-28-24
I was pretty disappointed in this book. I love Ms Carven’s dark planet warrior stories. This story, however, could not keep my interest. Instead of reading it in one or two sittings, it took me a couple of weeks to get through it. One of the issues I had was that the heroine, Calaxia, was supposed to be some kind of fierce female warrior, but in the end, she turned out to be a damsel in distress when the hero, Aries, had to come to her rescue (fix her) in regards to her emotional damage. I also found it kind of funny when my Alexa would periodically respond to the name Calaxia. The narrator, Mr. Sleep, was very good at differentiating between female and male voices. However, his style did not come across as very invigorating.

Sci-fi, murder mystery, and romance
Reviewed: 02-06-24
I purchased this book because it was on sale, but wasn’t too sure if I would enjoy it. I did find it interesting and was happy to pick it up when I had a break. The mystery was not too hard to figure out. I’m not real crazy about erotic scenes, but the few that were in this book were not hard core. The reason why I didn’t give it five stars was because the scenes in which Tracy lost control of her body made me somewhat uncomfortable. Being a closet feminist, those scenes tended to make my skin itch. The narration was good with respects to pauses and pronunciations. I think I can say that it was worth the few hours I spent with it.

Interesting story
Reviewed: 12-23-23
The story was interesting enough to keep me engaged to the end. But there were periods that dragged for me. For instance, she had to come back to consciousness several times, and in the process she would tend to philosophize. It would draw out the scenes and make me a little impatient. Her personality lended to being dark. it’s understandable in her situation, but it led to her, expecting her own death many times. I wasn’t especially crazy about the narrator. Her style led to abruptness and choppiness in my view. I got used to it after a while, and she did try to change the voice a little bit that allowed me, the listener, to recognize that another character was speaking.

Different. Take on the King Arthur legend
Reviewed: 11-29-23
I’m normally not a big fan of time travel romances, but I am familiar with Ms. Shea and I’ve liked her past works. At first, I wasn’t going to give a review because I couldn’t really put my finger on why I like this in general. There wasn’t really a lot of exciting adventure, in fact, in some places, it dragged a little bit for me. But I did like it in the end, and can recommend it. The main characters were active in the story, but their romance was not predominant. Ms. Shea twisted the Arthur legend around, and in my opinion, made it even better. The narrator was perfect for the story, giving a sense of sophistication and a feeling of nobility.
