Story
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

Great story, good voices
Reviewed: 01-28-20
This is a good story and well told, but the background noise is too loud. It's distracting to listen to the narrator and the dialog with lots of background conversation going on. I suppose you are supposed to feel like you're at a young ladies gathering in Bath as most of the background chatting is of high pitched girlish voices.

Not a singer
Reviewed: 03-16-19
I like The Hobbit story, and could handle the reading of the prose, but when the narrater began to sing the songs or poems in the book, it was very jarring. Please, if they have to sing the songs or poems, please get an actual singer. I turned the book off when the narrater interpreted the dragon in a manner completely different from the description of the dragon's speech patterns in the book.

Great book to listen to
Reviewed: 04-13-18
What made the experience of listening to Confederates in the Attic the most enjoyable?
This is a very funny, laugh out loud narration of the author's trip through states affected by the Civil War. It was originally published in the 1990s, but feels very timely when discussing the Civil War monuments and efforts to remove them. The author describes participating in the Civil War re-enactments and specifically the die hard participants.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, his voice is easy to listen to, and went well with the subject matter (a trip through the Southern states of the US).
