Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school are about to take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be her friends are turning out to be enemies. And, oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover about the secretive and sinister power that's turning dead fledglings into bloodsucking monsters must be kept secret.

This series has been great and the narrator has improved so much since the first book.

Story
One minute, sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird is a normal teenager dealing with everyday high school stress: her cute boyfriend Heath, the school's star quarterback who suddenly seems more interested in partying than playing ball; her nosy frenemy Kayla, who's way too concerned with how things are going with Heath; her uber-tough geometry test tomorrow. The next, she's Marked as a fledgling vampyre, forcing her to leave her ordinary life behind and join the House of Night, a boarding school where she will train to become an adult vampyre.

Hard to listen to narrator
Reviewed: 05-26-24
I have read all the House of Night books years ago. I love the story line, Listening to the stories again is more convenient, so I chose this option this time. Plus I normally love the narrators and they make the story more interesting. The narrator for this book had an extremely hard time making voices seem to fit with the characters. For example, Stevie Rae instead of sounding country sounded like she had a sore scratchy throat. Aphrodite sounded like she was way older than what she is and always seductive regardless of who she was talking too. Damien’s voice was another one that was hard to listen to. He sounded like a squeaky little boy vs the mature teenager his character is. Again, the books are amazing, but I recommend reading vs listening for this series.
