Story
Wedding bells celebrating the arranged marriage between the lovely Duchess of Beaumont and her staid, imperturbable duke had scarcely fallen silent when a shocking discovery sent Jemma running from the ducal mansion. For the next nine years she cavorted abroad, creating one delicious scandal after another (if one is to believe the rumors). Elijah, Duke of Beaumont, did believe those rumors. But the handsome duke needs an heir, so he summons his seductive wife home.

Couldn't get into it because of the reader

Would you try another book from Eloisa James and/or Susan Duerden?
I'm an Eloise James fan but I can't listen to this reader. She and Ann Flosnik are horrifying for me. I can't past their readings. Sorry.
What was most disappointing about Eloisa James’s story?
Don't know didn't get that far
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Completely. That's why I gave up on it.
Any additional comments?
Get better reader's. There are good ones out there. I have dozen's of books I won't buy because of the readers.

Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Fiacre Douglas?
The narrator was fine. This particular series was a chore to get through.
Would you be willing to try another book from Nora Roberts? Why or why not?
Unfortunately, I'm done with Nora Roberts. I find myself saying "who cares" in most of her books. I did the Boonsborough Inn trilogy and was truly disappointed. Maybe it's me but I've moved on.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Fiacre Douglas?
Yes
Was Born in Fire worth the listening time?
No

Story
Some of Lucy Sinclair's best days were those spent growing up in small town St. Dennis - working at the family inn and enjoying summers filled with swimming, sailing, tennis, and the company of Clay Madison, her best friend. But Lucy's darkest day, the one that shattered her innocence with violence and fear, also happened in St. Dennis. And the town she once loved became the place she gladly left behind-along with the terrible secret she's kept for 20 years

A disappointment in a good series
Reviewed: 10-29-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I loved this series and XE Sands is an exceptional narrator. She made St Denise a very real place for me. This particular book was very uninteresting. I couldn't finish it. In the end, I had to say, "who cares". The story held no interest for me. There was no under lying mystery, no tension, nothing to hold me. I was frustrated by the lack of a journey in the story. Not her best by any means.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Clay had the potential to be a really interesting simple good guy. The story and the characters fell apart.
What about Xe Sands’s performance did you like?
Her tambour is outstanding. With very little effort her characters come alive.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
That the heroine be more decisive. There had to be a reason why Clay was special. I didn't really care about either of them.
Any additional comments?
Don't miss the series because of this one book.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I do not recommend. This book was so slow. It bored me to death. I didn't finish it.
The reader was awful. A slow, overly detailed book and a dull reader make for torture. So sorry but I hated this one.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Author spent way too much time in the characters heads. Conversations between them seemed rather foolish.
Would you be willing to try another one of Helen Stern’s performances?
No!
Although she has a lovely reading voice she is not at all skilled in characterizations.
Do you think The Reasons for Marriage needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Oh, please, I couldn't get thru this one. I was a fan of Stephanie Laurens a long time ago. I find her books very boring now.

Very, very good. Loved this series. Wanted to wait for the audiobook and it was certainly worth it. He is clearly my favorite of the characters in the trilogy.
