Story
As the most celebrated European to explore Asia, Marco Polo was the original global traveler and the earliest bridge between East and West. A universal icon of adventure and discovery, he has inspired six centuries of popular fascination and spurious mythology. Now, from acclaimed author Laurence Bergreen, comes the first fully authoritative biography of one of the most enchanting figures in world history.

I read Marco Polo's book years ago and enjoyed it. This particular book has a fabulous compliment of historical context and information about Marco Polo's life from beginning to end. I will probably reread this in the years to come.

Story
Winter blankets the land, and more than just hope has died. Prevented from invading the Fhrey homeland by the tower of Avempartha, the western army seeks a way across the Nidwalden River before the fane obtains the secret of dragons. As time runs out for both humanity and the mystic Suri, the only chance for the living rests with the dead. Having made their fateful choice, can a handful of misfits do the impossible, or are they forever lost to an inescapable grave? Do gods truly exist? Is it possible to know the future? And what lies beyond the veil of death?

getting a little off track

I have really loved this series but this particular book was frustrating. It started off with some really interesting perspectives on life and death and then slowly broke down all the things we've learned so far about our characters in the world they live in. It all became so dramatic that it feels belittling to the previous four books and all of the character development, battles, magic, and drama.
I absolutely can't wait to finish the series but this book felt like a dramatic deviation from the others.
