Story
A haunting recollection of a mysterious boyhood event, The Man in the Black Suit leads off this masterful collection from Stephen King. Other dark tales include: All That You Love Will Be Carried Away, in which a man checks into a Lincoln, Nebraska Motel 6 to find the meaning in his life; That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is in French, presents the ultimate case of deja vu; and The Death of Jack Hamilton, a blistering tale of Depression-era outlaws on the run.

I loved the sound effects with the story, the switches in tone used appropriately, and the speeds that sound very authentic

Story
Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to "rescuing" a family from a nonexistent gunman.

Good story but his style is occasionally weird
Reviewed: 05-15-23
The plot is ok and has a good twist but there are some elements of asinine writing in this.
The characters sometimes (too frequently = more than one) start explaining something and then say “…it’s not important!” when the audience does not understand the poorly given explanation. Those are wasted minutes of dialogue 🤬 for the reader. There is also the occasional “…do you see?” that again follows moments of wasted dialogue.
The characters talk much more glibly than their situations would warrant (even allowing a stretch into fantasy). There is too much time dedicated to character development in the wrong settings and with the wrong device (he could have used narration for those rather than dialogue).

Good writing, but unlike other of his novels in that there is no paranormal of supernatural element. I imagined he would end it with describing how the lions have escaped from the picture in the shed

Story
Inextricably linked with the fatwa called against its author in the wake of the novel’s publication, The Satanic Verses is, beyond that, a rich showcase for Salman Rushdie’s comic sensibilities, cultural observations, and unparalleled mastery of language. The book begins with two Indians plummeting from the sky after the explosion of their airliner, and proceeds through a series of metamorphoses, dreams and revelations.

That…was a read

A long book with multiple converging storylines and timelines that is written in a very complex manner in which it is very easy to lose track of what the sentence is about. As to why the supreme leader of Iran hates it, the actual plot surrounding the satanic verses is a minor part of the book, so 🤷🏽♂️

At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.
