Story
Sameerixis, or Sam for those who actually know him, isn’t what you’d call normal. He had been a door-to-door salesman, of sorts. One that peddled wares, wishes, and whims to anyone willing to pay his prices. Except that life is gone now. His old business model had been modernized. Sam was a man trapped in place by his own success. And loving it. Additionally, he was also the owner of a private military company that specialized in dealing with criminals or those wanted by a government. His goals were simple. Now, he’s gotten exactly what he wanted in the worst possible way.

What the Hell happened?
Reviewed: 01-14-24
Multi-thousand year old Torment of Lust who we are repeatedly told is super powerful and a badass bla bla bla gets easily slapped back to Hell by someone who is supposedly super bad at sorcery and all of a sudden hes having moral compunctions about killing demons? In Hell? What? He keeps getting the snot knocked out of him by the same tactic over and over. I cant tell if its a failing of the MC or a failing of the writer to come up with something different to counter his MCs powers.
The story was great up until now but its at this point that things stop making any sense.
Parsneau is great as always. Love her.

Story
An existence spent being forced to kill others to satiate a monster. Where the only thing to look forward to was the blessed, if brief, period of time between paying that bribe. Except that very same monster is and isn’t Rene. It just happened to live inside his own mind and force him to do what it wanted.

Good Story but the romantic plot is a flop
Reviewed: 01-09-24
I really enjoyed the overall plot of this book, but I really felt like the Romantic Plot fell off a cliff.
Right out of the gate MC gets gaslighted by his new "harem" as they all turn on him. Its straight up "you did everything wrong, but since Im so nice Ill let you off the hook as long as you spill all your secrets." I dont expect much realism in the realm of fantasy stories, but lets be honest, between the way MC has acted like an anime harem protag by ignoring and pushing off developing relationships in book 1 and now the girls turning on him and gaslighting him, this screams red flags and a flopped relationship already.

Dont let the cover art fool you no competency here
Reviewed: 07-12-23
Despite the badass look of the characters in the cover, theyre all pretty stupid. Im all for stupidity for the sake of comedic relief, but theres a point where its too much and you REALLY sit there an wonder "how did these people survive being adventurers for more than a day?" Just about every fantasy has a story or trope about that one adventurer party who got killed because they did something monumentally stupid. In this story, the MC and his party are that trope. They never have any plans going into any situation and just run out there, they dont even set a watch when camping in the wilderness, the MC has about as much agency as a hamster never really stepping aside to practice his magic until hes in a fight, and the only reason none of them are dead is pretty gratuitous use of plot armor.

Little by little Rob has been gaining the strength he needs to protect not only himself, but the family and town he is coming to love. One threat has been removed but a new criminal element has moved into town. This one seems more organized and has Rob scrambling to decipher their plans. Worse: they seem to know things about Rob that even he doesn't. This time freedom is on the line as these new criminals are more interested in convincing Rob to join them than in killing him.

Really glad I stuck with this series
Reviewed: 12-25-22
I'm really glad I stuck with this series. MC is still a bit of an idiot, but at least now he has enough power that it doesn't matter so much.
Now if only he could start keeping his promises to the girls... Rob strings along Daria so much I'm doubly convinced this is a fantasy title because any other girl would have left him after getting turned away so much. Seriously, at the beginning she's frustrated that he hasn't made good on his promises and by the end STILL HE HASNT DONE SHIT. She doesn't deserve this crap.

Great SoL with a great cast.
Reviewed: 12-21-22
I really enjoyed this one. It was so easy to listen to and just gave me all the warm fuzzies you come to expect from a good SoL. Despite not having much experience with the girls in his previous life, MC doesnt drop the ball which I thought was really nice. Im very much looking forward to the next installment and it probably be an instabuy for me. This is my first book by this author and from what I see so far, Im looking forward to getting into his other works!

Good story, but with a single digit IQ MC
Reviewed: 12-16-22
This series does so many things right. Good world building, interesting power mechanics, great female characters, but it's all brought down by a brain dead MC. It's like painting the Mona Lisa... and then punching a hole through the face of it. Every single time MC gets in a fight he forgets, I am not embellishing, half his repertoire of skills and equipment and then promptly loses said fight forcing one of the girls, literal plot armor, or the goodwill of his enemies to save his butt. Why have a literal hour of exposition on him training how to fight mages only for him to use absolutely nothing he learned the next time he fights a mage? Spends hours and hours making potions to help him in a fight, uses none of them. Why have him monologue about how Honor has its place, but can get you killed, then have him get all hot and bothered about honoring a duel that is stupidly one sided.
I get writing in suspense, but don't sacrifice the IQ of your characters in order to do it. It's lazy and extremely frustrating.

We’re starting to make some coin, but I’m always looking to improve. So, how can I sell more whiskey and make even more gold? Double-cross my distributor? Buy new businesses to serve as fronts for my operations? Steal a few precious artifacts from those blue-blooded elves? Yep. All of the above, and we’ll kill anyone who gets in our way.

Great story so far, but its lacking in some ways..
Reviewed: 10-27-22
Really enjoying this story so far. Plot is 5/5. My only gripe is the extreme lack of romantic and explicit content for what is considered a harem fantasy. Its VERY slow burn. So much so that I dont even know how the romance between the different characters is progressing. They just hit milestones in their relationships very slowly without any kind of build up or explanation. There is one event where two characters talk about their relationship in this entire book and by the end nothing comes of it.
Dont get me wrong. I'm here for the plot, but I'm also here for the "Plot"

Story
When William stumbles through a portal in the middle of Antarctica, he'll suddenly find himself in a world unlike any he's ever known. Now, he's surrounded by monster girls, vicious warlords, and everything in between. Worse, his only weapon is a magical branding iron, which seems to have one skill and one skill only, to overwrite slave brands. Thing is, monster girls seem pretty grateful about being freed from the tyranny of their masters, and with each one he brands, the stronger he becomes.

Great story for a Harem lit, but..
Reviewed: 10-20-22
Made it a little over half way through this book but I think Ill just leave off the audible version and go read it on Kindle. The story is good and I am engaged, but the choice of narration style just isnt my cup of tea. Like many others I got super excited seeing Andrea Parsneau's name on the cover and J.F Harding has a good voice, but they do not stick to characters. Each narrator gets their own chapters. That means that the same character has two different voices depending on which narrator is reading the chapter. It really pulls me out and jars me around. Especially hearing a male voice a female in a HAREM book. Ew.

Boredom was killing Jay, not in a dramatic way, but in the life of stifled potential way. He wanted more out of life. Then, without any warning, he found himself part of an experiment with not even so much as the courtesy of a "how do you do?". It wasn't really all bad, though. The fit, busty babes outnumbered him 30 to one. Now, Jay has to fight to survive. He has to conquer the dungeon or die. On top of that, he has to juggle a bunch of gorgeous women who are all stuck in the same life or death fight as him.

Very good series, but...
Reviewed: 10-19-22
This is so far one of my favorite series in the harem genre. My biggest issue and hang up, however, comes from the MC. He drags his feet on every major decision and keeps putting it off and putting it off. This dude is the king of decision procrastination. Very frustrating, but honestly its really the only major negative for me in the series. Girls are great, Fights are great. Progression is great. MC drags around a moral anchor that literally gets multiple people killed, then keeps it.

Alex has taken firm control over his county as the count of Brit. By and large, everything has settled into a fairly normal pattern for him, his Numbered, and his wife. The problem of course is there's still an ongoing war between two duchies, and Regina Tanulf, Alex's liege and lord, has plans for him. Plans that he wants no part of. Except that he doesn't really have a choice in the matter. Everything begins to spin back out of control as a messenger from the Wild Lands arrives with a plea for help.
