As a true crime junkie this was really interesting. We never know who's out there trying to pounce! It's definitely a cautious tale. Recommend.

Kept my interest but...

First off let me start by saying that the imagery in the book was amazing!. It made me feel like I was right there with the characters. That being said, a good portion of the book felt like it was mostly imagery. I wanted to sink my teeth into a great thriller but it just didn't quite get there. The climax was somewhat lacking for me so much so that by the end it had run out of steam. I will seek out the author again to read other works.

Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

First of all, the writing was terrific! The imagery and the nuances of life really rooted themselves in my mind. I was really impressed with the author and his captivity of characterization. It's fantastic. The book grabbed my attention from the start. I usually only use Audible in my car but I bought a pair of ear plugs just so I could listen in bed at night. I am definitely looking up the author to check out his other books. Great job!

I love the premise of the book but it fell short. It was off to a great start and had me hooked. It was dangerous and interesting. Just when I thought it was going to get exciting it was over. Great beginning to an underwhelming ending. I gave it 4 stars because it was off to a great start. I still love Lucinda's books though.

Great Read, Narrations Not So Much
Reviewed: 09-15-21
The book was really enticing. Once I started I couldn't wait to get in the car so I could listen to it. The plot was fresh and not the usual whodunit. Lots of action and plenty of twists. The narration was inconsistent. In the beginning, the narrator was male and narrated for all the characters which usually doesn't bug me. The character of Eden, a woman, sounded like a young man, which is great if the character is a young man. I kept thinking the character was a male. It was hard to get past it. Towards the middle the narrator for the women was female. Her voice suited the characters and it was more believable. Another thing I didn't quite understand was the relationship between Eden and her father and how the whole relationship was portrayed. I thought it could have gone another way since there was addiction involved at some point. Other than a couple of narration considerations and Eden's family issues I really enjoyed the book.

Great Zombie Read

I've read books 1-3 and they did not disappoint. I like that main characters die, just like real life. I like the varying personalities and how they all struggle with turmoil. I think it's important for the reader to engage in all parts of the storyline. Whether I had empathy or apathy for the characters they were all very relatable and I wanted to know all about them. The storyline was easy to follow, always interesting, and kept me listening well into the night. I am excited to start book 4. cause, we'll, zombies are my jam 😬😁

I loved the book. It kept me interested and I was completely immerged in the lives of Ramsey and Devlin. The author wrote with little nuances that really captured the thoughts and actions of the characters. Bronson Pinchot did a fabulous job narrating. I can't wait to get into the next book by Kylie Brant.
