Story
Bennie Rosato looks exactly like her identical twin, Alice Connolly, but the darkness in Alice's soul makes them two very different women. Or at least that's what Bennie believes, until she finds herself buried alive at the hands of her twin. Meanwhile, Alice takes over Bennie's life, impersonating her at work and even seducing her boyfriend in order to escape the deadly mess she has made of her own life. But Alice underestimates Bennie and the evil she has unleashed in her twin's psyche, as well as Bennie's determination to stay alive long enough to exact revenge.

Well woven story with twists and turns that kept my interest. I expected Alice's cover to be blown when she said "do it quick" leaving the "ly" off her adverb. Benni would not make that grammatical error.

Ralph Moody recounts the thrilling tale of the plucky horse who refused to quit, the down-on-his-luck jockey who didn't let horrendous accidents keep him out of the saddle, and the taciturn trainer who brought out the best in both.

Can't go wrong with Diana
Reviewed: 03-30-23
The stories were engaging. I am glad they were bundled to cost only one credit for the lot of them. I wouldn't like to use a credit on a story less that five hours long.
It was interesting to hear back stories to her Outlander works. I was particularly interested in the process of zombie manipulation. I had heard of it before, where the process was enhanced by depriving people of salt which makes them feel crazy. Then they can be controlled by giving pinches of salt.
Diana didn't mention the salt connection, but her research is great.
I have read reviews where her voice was criticized. That criticism needs to stop! I would no sooner reject her spoken words than her written words. They are her and I very much appreciate her. I could listen to her speaking all day long. She is interesting, very well read and a marine biologist to boot. My kind of woman.
Her narrators are among the best. I can't wait to listen to more. When I get my book series finished "Potemkin's Razor" I sure would like to know how to get great narrators on audible.

Best immersive story about coal mining from a woman who did it.

I was very impressed. While I knew Homer Hickam never disappoints with his stories, I delayed reading this one because my first impression was that it would be a female oriented romance story. However, this is the first of his coal mine stories to really bring the reader down into the mine and become immersed in the work. Other stories have most of the action above ground, with the men miners just going in and out, with an occasional accident. Red Helmet is amazing. I feel like I have been in the mine and learned a lot about what it is like. The fact that the main character is a woman learning the ins and outs of mining, while solving a great mystery is delightful. I am so glad I read Red Helmet.

I really appreciated how the author wove a sci-fi tale with action, political intrigue, a hero with good character, plausible technology and a romantic triangle that turned out great in the end. Being a HAM myself , I appreciated the thumbs up to amateur radio operators in the last chapter. Plus, I very much appreciate the references, in the end, to a real life ancient text that exudes great hope for a reborn or restored earth "

Life on the ranchlands of Montana comes with more than its share of trouble. The unique people who live and work on this untamed stretch of today's American West expect it---and some of them even enjoy it. One of them is Mike Wire, a former homicide detective who once worked the decadent hills and valleys of Hollywood.

Plenty to think about, unexpected plot twists and get the feeling Homer was there.

The story was very good. It was to folks living in Montana and those who have heard about black helicopters, what Hickam's war books were to soldiers and his rocket books are to coal miners and NASA buffs. Only slightly familiar with the alphabet soup bureaucracy and its issues over land rights, and a little more familiar with the dog eat dog world of mayors and political bigwigs, I found quite a bit to laugh about. I also kept picking up on how much dinosaur history is simply guessed at, from what was alluded to underneath what was actually said. As usual Homer Hickam is intellectually stimulating with plenty of humor for seasoning.
Now, there were some reviews critical of the narrator. So, I went into the story with my ear tuned. I listened for a while and came to the conclusion that the narration style was entirely appropriate for a cowboy reading of the book's Peyton Place murder mystery genre. I appreciated the artistry. However, after a while, I increased the reading speed to 1.2 and was even happier.

Story
Crescent is a crowhopper - a genetically modified mercenary programmed for ruthless warfare. When she’s taken prisoner by Crater Trueblood instead of being killed in battle, she thinks it’s a disaster. Crater is weary of war. He’s a miner, not a soldier. He’d rather be mining Helium-3 than battling the infernal crowhoppers. But after he captures Crescent and brings her to Moontown, he’s surprised how much he enjoys her company. When she’s falsely accused of murder, he becomes an outlaw to help her escape.

There are so many layers to fathom, beneath and beyond the apparent main plot. I could listen to Homer Hickam's stories and never grow weary. Great narration too. Really good narrator. The next time I hear the phrase "From dust we came and dust we return", I will say "Dust to Dust, Endless Dust". Now, dear reader, you will have to read/listen all the way to the end in order to get the meaning. However, if you read/listen with faculties other than eyes and ears, you might feel a tug of the infinite/eternity in your heart.

Just my kind of space related sci-fi. Grounded in accurate history, presents intellectually stimulating ideas of the future and promotes the advantages of good character in older teens. In many respects a modern JA Henty. Hope to see even more like this from Homer Hickam.
