I thought I was familiar with all the Dickens works but had missed this one. It is the best in my opinion and this audio version perfect . The narration really brought it to life and I enjoyed every minute.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

The dialogue between Skippy and Joe was amusing and made me laugh. It wasn’t profound or inspiring like great literature but it made housework chores less boring and I appreciate that

Story
The principal theme of this ambitious book is time, threading together three generations of the Pargiter family. The story begins on a day in 1880 in the household of Colonel Abel Pargiter, his dying wife, and their seven children, and it ends in the 1930s with a brilliantly depicted party at which the Pargiters, young and old, pass in review. Important events - births, deaths, marriages, wars - occur in the wings; it is the commonplace moments that are captured here in a sequence of perfectly drawn scenes.

Sure I had heard of her. I had just finished a Tom Hardy novel I really liked and was in the mood to be transported to someone else’s world again. That she does- amazing insight and description. But I did start wishing that the characters would do something. Since then I googled her and am glad I finally got around to hearing her. Will check out Mrs Dalloway but will put her in the category of not back to back ( like Cormac McCarthy I worship him but in measured doses)

Story
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

I am not familiar with the works of Don Winslow and selected this for the narration of Ed Harris. Glad I did. Good plot and good character presentation and spot on narration- slightly sardonic and perfectly nuanced.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

The Good and the Not So Good
Reviewed: 06-18-22
I have listened to the previous books at times with interest. The author does a good job of spinning several scenarios and juggling them together and keeping them synchronized. He has created many characters varied and colorful. I happen to love horses and his storyline includes them. But I have tired of the immature often selfish behavior of the characters. True they are mostly young and they do some brave and unselfish acts. I have hoped they would mature more. I have lost respect for them and given up hoping for a Dumbledore or Gandalf to appear. I think this book will be my last. But Richard Jordan has created a world with history and culture and characters and I honor him for that.

Story
Ebenezer Le Page, cantankerous, opinionated and charming, is one of the most compelling literary creations of the late 20th century. Eighty years old, Ebenezer has lived his whole life on the Channel Island of Guernsey, a stony speck of a place caught between England and France yet a world away from either. Ebenezer himself is fiercely independent, but as he reaches the end of his life he is determined to tell his own story and the story of those he has known.

One of the Best

I am so grateful I stumbled upon this story. Roy Dotrice narrating could not be improved and I prefer his voice to reading. The way the tale unfolds slowly but poignantly is a masterpiece in my estimation. I put it on par with Patrick Tull narrating the Master and Commander series. I was moved to tears several times by the simple and in it's own way elegant story. It seemed so genuine and I feel a better person for having shared it.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

I like to feel I come to certain conclusions and emotions on my on own and feel this is a beautifully crafted tale. The narration was perfect!

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Story
This, the first in the series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, R.N., and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging.
