Thoroughly engaging and thought provoking

Sometimes in novels when there are alit of seemingly unconnected characters, I find that tiresome. But in this one, I was invested in each of them as well as the main character. And I liked the unpredictability and ambiguity of the main premise.

Well written but depressing

This book was well written, but the characters, with the exception of the protagonist, were not well-drawn enough for me, and the overall feeling was depressing. The little bit of hope at the end was not worth it. I found the narrator’s style distracting and difficult to understand at times.

Beautifully written, beautifully read. Sweet, moving, insightful. The characters, wonderfully realized, will stay with me for a long time.

Reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird

Not quite as perfect plot-wise, but close. The characters are real and touching, and the experience of seeing the world through a feisty young girl's eyes is again magical. The writing and narration are a pleasure. Highly recommended.
