In the middle of the coldest winter on record, a super EMP destroys the power grid. No electricity. No cars or phones. Worst of all, no heat. The country is plunged into instant chaos. But for 26-year-old Hannah Sheridan, it's the best day of her life. For the last five years, she's been held captive by a sadistic psychopath, until the EMP releases the lock of her prison. Hannah emerges from her underground cell into a hostile winter landscape with no way to call for help, no vehicle that will drive, armed with nothing but the clothes on her back and her own determination to survive.

whole new level of EMP and Suspense
Reviewed: 05-20-20
Such a suspenseful first book. I was gripped from the beginning. Kyla created excellent characters. The plot of a woman escaping her captor during an EMP strike. Is genius.
This is a whole knew level of EMP and horror . I HIGHLY recommend this novel. The narrator did an excellent job for the characters. I hope she is used again.

unexpected time travel
Reviewed: 03-15-20
I read this book as part of my "book club group reads."
The summary of this book had us all REALLY excited about how these passengers survived. The concept as great. The characters are awesome. The immediate chemistry between our main characters caught us a little off guard.
But what else did, the fact that this is a time travel!?!?! That was a plot twist we weren't expecting. Everything that happened in this novel was a shock. But I enjoyed every last bit of it!
I liked how our main characters decided that they were going to fix their mistakes before the happened.
It only goes to show that our future is not written. You control the outcome of your future. So enjoy your life and pray that you leave a legacy.

Story
When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

We all want this demon
Reviewed: 03-15-20
Y'all. This is such a fun book. I fully enjoyed the growth of our Main Character. Her discovery of family secrets...... and the discovery of a summoned demon. Okay, the demon. I want this demon. His "I don't care" attitude is amazing. his lack of empathy is frustrating. And what is his definition of the word "Protect."
I am dying for a second installment. I need more of our human/demon duo.

I'm not like the vampires in your books, little girl. I'm not agonizing over my own soul or the ethics of drinking your blood. I don't want saving or to find some great love that will alter my very existence. I'm not a monster. I'm the devil himself, and I have no problem playing that role. I take what I want, and right now, what I want is you. And there's nothing you can do to stop me.

Hot and steamy quick bite
Reviewed: 03-15-20
This is book one for a novella series. I enjoy the characters a lot. And while the vampire theme is must more darker than your typical vampire book.... I wanted more. It was hot and fast paced. Over all quick and leaves you hanging.
Again I will remind you that it's a novella series, so it will be short, but I want them all so I don't have to wait.
Everett is so dark and screams death and danger. Farah is so sweet. I love how she is more relatable than your typical female lead in this kind of subgenre. She is clearly afraid but her curiosity is getting the best of her. Everett hasn't lied to her, he told her up front what will happen, yet she is willing to except that.
The narrator, you can tell it's rough on her voice to do a lower octave for Everett's POV. I think It might have been better if there was a male narrator for Everett, but she does a good job.

The first law of the Valkyrie is "Don't fall in love." I messed that one up...big time. I failed my sisters and fell in love with William Johnson. I've watched him for three lifetimes and a little piece of me broke every time I had to let him die. I paid the price for breaking the first law of the Valkyrie. I lost all the memories I had of Will. That's why Sam is keeping tabs on me. She's an ever-present shadow during my time at Mattsfield High. Sam is the perfect Valkyrie. Tall. Beautiful. Heartless.

I received this book and was so excited to dive into this. The overall plot, characters and story was great. but there was a little too much going on. The memories bouncing back and forth is confusing at first. Especially since the memories are jumbled around. I loved Val. Such a great character. Her growth along the way was amazing and she was easy to connect with. I felt her emotions through out the book. The author did a really great job.

After two weeks of searching, I found the seven-year-old I'd been hired to find too late. His body broken and discarded. Dead. My boss doesn't want me to hunt down his killers. It's too dangerous. But the Pacific Northwest Pack steps in, hiring me to bring the bastards to justice. Turns out the kid was half shifter. And shifters don't abandon their own. In a search that takes me through the maze of shifter hierarchy and the depths of the paranormal underworld, these killers underestimate how determined I am to mete out their punishment.

i really enjoyed listening to Cursed by Fire. the characters were well developed and the plot perfect. i connected well with Ari. Love the shifter James, personally team James. I find paranormal a little out of my usual reads but this made me want to jump back in.
I loved the new concept on how the supernatural was brought into the world. I hope we doscover more of how that happened. The author thought this through. She made it to where her audience felt every emotion Ari experienced. The scenes were detailed nicely. Not to much to make it over bearing and not to little to make it jump around.
The cliff hanger though!!!! I need more!!!

Raw with grief and reeling from the knowledge that her reserved mother hid something so momentous, Olivia leaves San Francisco and crosses the pond to unravel the mystery of a lifetime. One glance at the breathtaking Rosemere Priory and Olivia understands why the manor, magnificent even in disrepair, was the subject of her mother’s exquisite paintings. What she doesn’t understand is why her mother never mentioned it.

I absolutely enjoyed this novel. the characters are well developed and carefully thought about. I loved the mystery surrounding Olivia and her new found history and inheritance.
The development between Olivia and Sam went smoothly, and I routed for them 100%.
I really enjoyed the whole American learning she's English royalty. This was like a dream that every girl has.
The description of the Estate in England is extraordinary. I felt like I was in the Estate itself.
I believe Barbara O'Neal is a new favorite.
