Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Amazing!

This story was full of twists and turns that made the book super interesting and fun to listen to! The narrator was a perfect pick for the story as well. I noticed that there are a few reviews said that this book was “too unrealistic” or “doesn’t make any sense.” To those readers, this is a science fiction book so it’s not going to be perfectly realistic (even though Andy kept it as realistic as possible), and you should have known that when you started reading the book. To those that said that the story didn’t make sense, did you read the whole book? Did you pay attention when reading it? All of the questions I had were explained later in the book.

Abraham has often been called, "the father of faith." In this inspiring series, we study the life of Abraham, an ordinary man who heard the voice of God and "did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith" (Romans 4:20).

Story
After 40 years of wandering in the desert, the Israelites were ready to enter the Promised Land. The book of Joshua details the conflict, victory, and blessings they experienced as they conquered and divided their new homeland. In this verse-by-verse study, Skip Heitzig reveals the power of God and the victory that can be achieved by following his commands. We are challenged to "be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the lord your God is with you" (Joshua 1:9).

Great on Audio

I had never heard of the lawsuit this book was based on. Actually it’s two lawsuits, but the main emphasis of the book is on the history-making second one, so I’ll stick with that.
The story of how the lawsuit came about and was ultimately won is equal parts fascinating, heartbreaking, and redemptive. The book is a good read if you like history or legal drama. “Just Harvest” divided into three parts.
Part 1 is the shortest, just four chapters. It tells the story of the Greg Francis, the book author, who was one of the lead lawyers in the lawsuit. This section covers how his family came to America, his struggle to get through law school, and how he came to be connected to this case.
Part 2 has seven chapters and covers the history of black farmers in America. This section focuses on the hard work, difficulties, and injustices faced from the founding of the country up to modern days.
Part 3 is the longest in the book at eight chapters. It covers the background of what led up to the two lawsuits against the U.S. government, why the second suit was deemed necessary, and ultimately how the case was won.
It’s an eye-opening journey. I enjoyed the book on audio. This is a particularly good audiobook as it is narrated by Wintley Phipps, a minister and gospel-singer known for his booming baritone voice. Phipps really turns this audiobook into a compelling performance. Almost like he's presenting a one-man stage play. You can hear his passion for the topic and that makes some of the more difficult passages of the book better. I listened to it sped up a bit at 1.2x and it was just right.
The audiobook has a bonus interview between the author Greg Francis and Phipps. It’s over forty minutes long and includes some additional information not covered in the book. So that’s a nice bonus.

Robert Iger became CEO of The Walt Disney Company in 2005, during a difficult time. Competition was more intense than ever, and technology was changing faster than at any time in the company’s history. His vision came down to three clear ideas: Recommit to the concept that quality matters, embrace technology instead of fighting it, and think bigger - think global - and turn Disney into a stronger brand in international markets.

Story
Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

I couldn't finish it!

I needed this even more than I thought
Reviewed: 11-13-17
Confession. I'm a struggling perfectionist. Have been most of my life. I've been able to overcome it for the most part when it comes to things I don't really care about all that much. But if there's something that's REALLY important to me...something I REALLY want to accomplish or get done...something that I feel CALLED to do or BORN to do...well, my perfectionism kicks in big time. I start working on it with tons of enthusiasm. I map out the steps and stages. I start thinking about how big of an impact this is going to make for myself, my family, and yes, maybe even the world! Then, I get nailed hard with perfectionism, I splutter to halt. Tell myself I'll get it done soon...as soon as the time is right (perfect)...and then EVERYTHING will work out perfectly. Years later, I look back with regret and wonder what happened.
Does this happen with everything I do? No. Does perfectionism hang me out to dry every time? No. Just when it comes to something I really care about. Something I'm really passionate about. Something I know I can and should do because this is in my sweet spot. That's where I falter.
That's why this book is exactly what I needed. It has some humor, some good advice, and mostly it's a positive kick in the backside to get stuff done and how to get past my perfectionism.
I bought the hardcopy of this book first, started reading it, then knew I'd need it on audio so I could listen to it multiple times. So bought the book a second time, but this time on audio. I've been listening to in the car and while jogging. I can't tell you how many times I've pounded the steering wheel and said, "YES!" to no one in particular because the author hit the nail on the head for me.
I think the thing that was most helpful to me, was that John identifies SO MANY different ways that perfectionism rears it's ugly head and tries to stop the work you know you were born to do. I mean, it's not like I'm surprised that I struggle with perfectionism, I've known that for decades. It's that I didn't realize just how many ways perfectionism can sabotage my plans and my big goals.
So, if you struggle to get stuff done (especially the important stuff you really care about), get this book. Even if you don't know why you struggle (maybe especially if you don't know why you struggle). This book will help. And if you're a recovering perfectionist like me, you really, really need to read this book to uncover ALL the ways you need to say no to perfectionism and do the things you know you were meant to do in life.

I had fairly moderate expectations of this book when I started reading it. But it has turned into one of my top 10 all-time favorite books on spiritual life. It is so dead on in its assessment of the four enemies of the human heart. But it gives a new perspective on each of these four areas that I've never quite had before. And the section on how to deal with and counteract these four enemies is absolutely right. I heartily recommend this book to everyone who wants a life of personal freedom from guilt, anger, greed, and jealousy. This book is a life changer.
