Story
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Expected more … her podcasts are way better

This was a bit of a disappointment. I pre-ordered the book. This is how excited I was about this book. Sadly it’s none of that. The book has an oddly flat tone from a person who comes off as very alive and opinionated on podcasts. It was as if she was reading Wikipedia entries:( i wish her passion translated into to this book. Sadly it does not.

Story
Every iconic tech company was once a startup. And while these companies like to paint an origin story full of surefooted confidence, the truth is usually something different: the early life of most startups is pure chaos. This chaos comes from the vastly different motivations and incentives between those with the vision and those with the money. From fundraising paranoia to boardroom coups, Zalman and Neumann train their inimitable voices on the gulf between what founders and investors promise to do and what they end up actually doing.

Canary in the Coal Mine Book

Excellent book about the two sides of taking investment money. The founder took 70M from big name VCs but regrets the price she had to pay ( which included being fired by the board ). The early stage VC does a great job of trying to explain it to her but she is still upset.
The only thing missing in this book are numbers. After reading the book I looked her up company and saw that the valuation is super high relative to revenue which gives A LOT of context to investor behavior.
It explained a lot to me personally and this was not in the book. There is a reason investors were A-holes.
Yes if the company does not perform investors lose interest. 70M comes with strings attached which is common sense.
This is a cautionary tale everyone needs to read. Just because you can it doesn’t mean you should.

Story
Lebanese Hezbollah goes to great lengths to publicize its overt, social, and political activities and to conceal its covert terrorist, militant, and criminal pursuits. In the words of one operative, Hezbollah's "Golden Rule" is this: The Less You Know, the Better. In this podcast, terrorism scholar Matthew Levitt sets out to break this rule by shining a bright spotlight on Hezbollah's global terrorist and criminal activities. Levitt has been following Lebanese Hezbollah for almost three decades in and out of government. He's written books, given expert testimony, and literally mapped ...

Excellent addition to Hezbollah-obsessed randos like me

I have a strange obsesssion with the history of Hezbollah and the consequences of the Lebanese Civil War. Their kamikaze mindset is fascinating; their danger post-Syria civil war is underestimated as Israel descends into useless “peace plans” with Saudis. Meanwhile Iran’s military power only grows.
The real danger gets closer and closer to Tel-Aviv. Wake up people!!!!
This series adds a lot of interesting information. Also Mr. Levitt please make an audiobook version of your earlier book. Thank you!!!!

Fun and sharp book in Meghan
Reviewed: 09-16-22
Yes this book is critical of Meghan yet it made me like her a bit more. I understand and sort of admire her willingness to push herself ahead.
Yet she and Harry seriously miscalculated how her grievances would affect the Royal Family and how their demands for Lifestyle support and the use of titles would undermine their claims.
They can’t have it all.
