Story
Citadel is the only human city on the alien planet Edalide, ruled by the biweekly tides that bring both deadly danger and much-needed resources. But the drowning waters, constant threat of starvation, and eternal cold aren’t the most dangerous challenge. For the Flooded Forest is ruled by demons: monsters from Hell sent by their vengeful god as penance for their ancestors’ rebellion. To save their souls and return to their former glory, Citadel must kill every single one. Or so they believe.

Great Story!

The story was phenomenal. I was roped in from the very beginning. The detail was excellent and breadcrumbs were dropped all through the book that would make the wary feel rewarded for paying attention. The representation of neurodivergent people felt well researched and I felt that it played out like lived experiences. Kudos to the writer for creating this world and to the narrator for giving it a voice.
I look forward to the next installment, in good time, and hope to look into the writer's other works, (particularly if they also get narrated!😁)

Story
My name is Levi and I swear I didn’t kill her. Sure, I was the only person found at the scene of the crime, and maybe her blood was literally on my hands, but I can explain all that. I’m a journalist writing for Kansas City’s magical community. So when I suspected that a woman had been cursed, it’s only natural that I went to learn more. I couldn’t have known she’d be dead before I arrived. Seriously, I write headlines about bridge trolls and solstice events, not murder. The Wizard’s Council thinks I did it, and I’m going to have a hard time convincing them otherwise.

Loved it. Great urban fantasy w/distinct KC flair

Ton of fun. Binged it in a single day. Scratches that urban fantasy itch and told from the perspective of someone not mystically inclined. For me, that made the experience that much more immersive to say nothing of the KC landmarks used for context and set pieces.
