Story
In 1991, an ethnically diverse and peaceful region of Europe descended into violence, lawlessness, bitter hatred and chaos, almost overnight to the bewilderment of international observers. Communities fractured along lines of ethnic and religious affiliation, and the ensuing fighting was deeply personal, resulting in horrific brutality, rape, torture and genocide, causing the deaths of thousands of people. In this book, Alastair Finlan examines the internal upheavals of the former Yugoslavia and their international implications.

Good data points about the war in the Balkans and some reasons why things unfolded as they did.
B2 mistake on Chinese Embassy was glossed over…not a mistake…told to quit transmitting for Serbians and told when their tower would be taken out…just China being softly handled so they weren’t implicated on their support during the war for Serbia.

Story
First published in 1956, The Ascent of Rum Doodle quickly became established as mountaineering classic. As an outrageously funny spoof about the ascent of a 40,000-and-a-half-foot peak, many thought it inspired by the 1953 conquest of Everest. But Bowman had drawn on the flavour and tone of earlier adventures, of Bill Tilman and his 1937 account of the Nandi Devi expedition. The book's central and unforgettable character, Binder, is one of the finest creations in comic literature.

The funniest book you’ve never heard of

This book is one of the funniest clever books I’ve ever read. My parents read it to me as a child and finding it in print again has been amazing.

Story
Little more than 10 years after the first powered flight, aircraft were pressed into service in World War I. Nearly forgotten in the war's massive overall death toll, some 50,000 aircrew would die in the combatant nations' fledgling air forces. The romance of aviation had a remarkable grip on the public imagination, propaganda focusing on gallant air "aces" who become national heroes. The reality was horribly different. Marked for Death debunks popular myth to explore the brutal truths of wartime aviation.

From one military aviator to another - outstanding

Great story line with narration and organization that is outstanding.
Many lesson learned then are still used today in modern combat, but also many lesson learned then are ignored and we are still repeating them today.
Great history for all and even better for a military pilot.

Incredible story, one for the ages
Reviewed: 08-08-15
At the beginning of the book it claims not to be history, yet this has been the best history I have ever read (or in this case listened to). The book is well written and narrated. Hans Von lucks story is fascinating and I have the upmost respect for him, even though I have never met him. I can not give this book enough credit, it is marvelous.
