Every end is also a beginning. I thought I was going to die, and would have if it weren't for Slade. The only way he could save me was to open a rip between worlds. The only way for me to save myself was to go through it. Sometimes, fleeing one dangerous place just brings you to another.

I’m still hooked and hungry for more!
Reviewed: 03-26-25
I can’t believe this series still has my attention! Not just that but I’m riveted and hungry for more. Usually after awhile on the same series I start to burn out. My attention slips and I get bored etc.. It’s a common failing in very long series, particularly fantasy and romantasy. The plot becomes repetitive, lags or gets over the top ridiculous. Well not with this series!!! I mean wow! Props to the author on an amazing piece of literature! I can honestly say I’m still on the edge of my seat. I have been listening without stop back to back and I cannot wait for the next book! It’s already downloaded and I will be starting it the very second I finish this review!

Story
My life has been a series of bad decisions. Marrying an abusive man was the first... but falling for a dangerous inmate where I’m a nurse may be the worst. He’s brutal, heartless, and twisted. But he’s also the only one to notice the bruises on my skin. His forbidden touch becomes my addiction. His drugging kisses my obsession. After I learn the truth about why he’s in prison, I try to escape, but he finds me.

Not dark as expected. Violent but not kinky
Reviewed: 03-26-25
I found the story to be the sweet vanilla version of a dark romance. No smutty dark kink here. The dark aspects of the story are due to the violence more than the romance. The main guy is a criminal and there is abuse and violence towards the mfc (not from the mmc). The story is more about a woman overcoming and a heartfelt romance with a criminal. Very lovey HEA. If you looking for lots of dark kinky sex, this is not it. Bummer I know…but it’s a sweet story with some excessive violence. Well written and the narration is well done.

I’m a Nightmare, a creature that feeds on fear, and I’m capable of boundless cruelty—which is why my services come at a steep price: the life of the person who hired me. As such, the only people who hire me on are those brought to me by fate, like Mina, a woman so desperate for revenge that she’s willing to spend her own life to get it. I don’t usually care why I’m hired. Human affairs don’t matter to me. Food is food, and a job is a job. Mina’s enemies will get what they deserve—and I’ll get what’s mine. Her beating heart.

I really enjoyed this book. It was original, well written, had characters I actually cared about that showed growth, no boring spots , decent steam, and a heartwarming sweet HEA ending. Besides all that, the narration was well done and from dual perspectives. Very entertaining and enjoyable. Absolutely worth a credit.

I feel like I am going crazy. I don't know who I am now. After...After everything. The accident. The assault. I'm not sure of anything anymore. The only thing I am sure of is him. Ace Wilde is the darkness that shadows run from and now he has me in his sights. Our bond is inescapable. He says he can teach me how to be fearless, but at what cost? My mind? My soul? My heart? The moment we met I knew I would gladly give away all three for a chance to lie with the devil. If love makes a person go mad, then I accept my diagnosis.

I wanted to LOVE this so much! Unfortunately, though it had crazy potential, it just didn’t do it. My biggest complaint was lack of detail. I think it’s a case of telling not showing. Especially when it came to the steamy scenes. They come across as rushed. It’s like if I told you “ I ate a sandwich “ compared to “biting into the fresh baked ciabatta bread, my eyes rolled in pleasure. Garden greens, crunchy pickle, thin sliced turkey breast with artisan cheese. All smothered in some kind of divine creamy aioli. I took another bite of the heavenly creation, catching a smear of sauce before it could drip down my chin.”
Anyway you get the idea…. It just left a lot to be desired. Especially for the sex scenes…. At least for anyone familiar with well written romance novels. The other issue I had was stuff not making sense or being borderline ridiculous. I mean I guess it’s based off the Joker and Harley Quinn so maybe some level of ridiculous should be ok. But the inconsistencies in characters and random plot details made me nuts. For example he runs a chemical company… that makes “ the world’s most popular drug”. Ok that’s fine, except the drug doesn’t do anything fun! It paralyzes you and makes you live out your worst nightmare. Ok maybe governments use it for nefarious things or whatever… nope! Apparently “dumb frat boys” are the main purchasers. lol WHAT?! That’s just beyond stupid.
I think the author tried to stuff a bunch of Batman and joker Gotham style details into her own story, and it just didn’t work.
The duet narration was very well done at least. I wouldn’t recommend spending a credit on this one. If you’re hungry for a dark romance with a crazy sexy psychopath there are better choices. Try Selena Winters, Gigi Styx, Molly Doyle, or if you want really dark Lauren Biel. However if your someone who can just enjoy the ride without poking holes… well you might like it.

I was the girl who ran from nightmares until Fordhurst promised me a dream. All my life, I’ve been a pawn. A bargaining chip for my family, a trophy for my fiancé. I’m not a person to them, just an asset to own and control. So when I gather the courage to flee on my wedding day, I run hard and fast, hiding in a string of small towns, hoping each one will be my last. Always running, always hiding, never seen, until Fordhurst. Until Dante. He’s a priest with a past shrouded in shadows, an enigma inked with secrets. He watches me with a gaze so raw, it’s unholy.

I tried to get into it… but idunno it just didn’t grab me like the other books. I’m an hour from the end and I gave up…. To immediately start the second carnival story😂. Hopefully it will live up to carjacked and the first carnival story. I’ll probably come back and give this one another chance later. As of now it’s getting marked DNF with a firm mental rating of “meh”. I wouldn’t spend a credit on it unless you’re bored and have exhausted all your other options. No point wasting your money on this one when her other books are waiting, deliciously dark depraved and available.

A masterpiece of unruly auburn curls, fiery eyes, and a spirit that can set the world ablaze. She is also the unfortunate driver I have to exploit to make my escape. I've been many things in my life—convict, murderer, psychopath. But the one thing I've never been is attached. She is supposed to be a means to an end. A less conspicuous way to travel. But amidst the chaos, we find a twisted serenity in each other's arms, making me want to keep her forever... if we can survive this.

This is definitely one of those books you keep to listen to multiple times. Some of the best CNC scenes Iv ever heard! Very hot! I absolutely LOVE how unapologetically bad the guy is. I was also impressed that despite a very fast paced story( lacked the details that would make the story more believable/realistic) there was actually a decent entertaining plot. The story is absolutely about the sex but manages to actually have substance. The dual POV and excellent narration was the cherry on top of a really fantastic dark romance!

I just swore out loud with an embarrassing amount of volume…. Freakin agonizingly awesome cliffhanger! Despite the cliffhanger (ooo am I mad! I was NOT ready for that to end!) the book was truly excellent. I think it may actually have been better than the first book! I listened to it practically nonstop start to finish. Grabbed me and kept me hooked! Never a boring moment.
The character development was excellent. The fmc really comes into her own without it being ridiculous. Great pace with intrigue, betrayal, secrets, love, longing, violence, impending doom, war on the horizon, awakening magic, danger, and fabulous nail biting sexual tension!
I have to say I did not see that last little twist at the ending! Caught me by surprise, which is pretty unusual for a romantic fantasy. I’m crawling out of my skin needing the next book!
Don’t hesitate, spend the credit, get the book. This series belongs in any lover of romantic fantasy’s library! It’s an absolute MUST!

I got this book on a whim after skipping over it multiple times. Mainly because of the comments. Well holy shit they aren’t wrong! I mean WOW!!! What an awesome book! It checked all my boxes for a fantasy romance.
-Dual POV male and female
-male and female narration ( pretty well done too!)
-unique interesting world build
-original engaging plot- kept me interested the whole way through!
-wonderful realistic characters with flaws and growth and struggles etc..ie you actually care about them.
-sex scenes? Oh yes there are sex scenes! None of that kiss fade to black it’s the next day nonsense either!! Detailed , HOT, spicy steamy descriptive sex scenes!!! This quality of spice is hardly ever in fantasy romance. More often you would find anything this descriptive in a smut book. That’s one of the best parts of the book tho! It’s not jamming smut down your throat or hiding it. The sex, just like the violence or character interactions or political intrigue or wardrobe descriptions. It’s exactly as much as the story calls for. No blank spots and no excessive filler.
-Since I know some of you out there are like me and are thinking “ descriptive sex scenes, alright… but what about the kink… are we talking vanilla or…???” Well! While there has not been anything overtly kinky there is a definite lean toward rough hard and a highly dominant man in charge willing to put a girl in her place… Personally I think we will be seeing more titillating scenes in the future as the story progresses.
- Strong fmc who shows amazing character growth as she comes into her own. The best part about her; she hardly ever falls pray to the kind of idiotic dumbfuckery that can be so common in female fantasy heroines.
- No stupid misunderstandings or out of the blue nonsense for the sake of plot drama!
-top notch sexual tension
- Action Adventure and some excellent violence!
-Plots and political intrigue.
I’m sure I could go on and on. But really it’s a fantastic book. I’m still shocked at what a find this story is. I’m more than half way through book two and Iv got to tell you; it might be even better!
MORE THAN WORTH THE CREDIT!!! Don’t hesitate! This is the one you want!!! Buy it now! NOW NOW NOW!!! It’s that good!!

Entertaining and well written. Unique world build and characters worth getting invested in. A great YA fantasy … with agonizingly dissatisfying sex scenes! This book will NOT be the one scratching that particular itch unfortunately.. it’s really to bad because the potential heat and build up was pretty excellent. Right after the shirt comes off..———- ? ! Suddenly it’s the next day! I honestly don’t even know if they had sex! It was all kisses and then just euphemisms and words like heat and wonder and sensation… absolutely no details tho! Damn it I am frustrated lol . So you have been warned. Good story- no smut! Now please excuse me while I go find myself something filthy with an embarrassing amount of explicit detail!

Didn’t do it for me
Reviewed: 01-20-25
I LOVE a good dark romance, the darker the better! Unfortunately this one just didn’t do it for me. Can’t put my finger on it exactly, maybe it seemed like it was trying to hard. Most of the reviews are over the moon so it must be a me thing…. I think it was to unbelievable. The guy is oh so ruthless ridiculous over the top… but then he’s got this strict moral code and is all about respect and consent and stuff? lol I don’t think he was messed up enough for me. I’m leaning more towards the guys from the LORDS series and entertained by books by Kitty Thomas, Lauren Biel, and Natasha Knight. See… Dark😂
Sadly I DNF but again it’s probably just me. If you like your romance on the dark side or morally grey, I’d skip this one… maybe check out those above authors and join me on the dark side😈 That’s where I’ll be!
