Great Book. Hello Werewolves, Goodbye Zombies

Extraordinary story. The author builds on traditional werewolf legends to build an urbane and amusing tale. The story is complex, modern and amusing without breaking once from classic werewolf conventions. The performer is perfect for the tale. As the vampire craze was replaced — or complemented — by zombies, so werewolves may be the next wave.

I'll look forward Glen Duncan's next book.

Beyond noir in . The protagonist is a woman, which is a welcome change from the standard burned-out male detective of the genre.

Alas, the woman is haunted by extremely black memories and the brave reader who plunges into her bleak world gets a giant dose of noir and despair. If you plan to read this as a diversion, think again. If you're ready for the blackest noir, you are in for a wild ride.

Great Book, WRONG READER

Mankell is one of my favorite detective writers and audiobooks are my favorite medium for novels. I may be driven to paper or eBooks by the awful decision to have Dick Hill read them. Hill's voice is perfect for the brutal, raw emotion if Lee Childs, but totally wrong for the ironic European Mankell. Mankell neeeds a European-sounding voice.

For American noir, Hill is the greatest. For other genres, he is totally wrong. Don't the tim eared decision to have him read this put you off this superb writer.
