Story
In the darkness beyond the galaxy, there are monsters. Some swim closer to the light, drawn by the beacon that is the Astronomican, while others stalk the Void, predators in the dark. The Carcharodons have hunted for millennia, but now they are drawn into a new blackness...the Dark City of the drukhari itself. Commorragh. For a thousand years, Chaplain Tangata Manu has searched for a relic lost under his watch: an ancient thing, once charged into the keeping of the Forgotten One himself. But at the brink of seeing his hunt fulfilled and the relic returned, it is stolen from under him.

How could you take arguably two fo the most ignored factions by GW (carcharadons & Drukhari) and make such a bland plot?! The writer does a dang good job depicting both the shark marines & dark eldar but the whole plot revolves around this slave mother & her mentally impaired child who the main character says multiple times in the beginning how their culture & laws are to kill excess, unauthorized crew but these two are fine to live because the BOY is important somehow seeing doors everywhere, because his mother says so. nevermind the chapter Librarian saying the child is not a psycher. Then they all go on a merry adventure to cammorah, mom & child live through the whole ordeal & even fight THE Lilith Hesperex in an arena & all the drukhari are defeated, including lilith, because the child says Door to the plot device which becomes a mirror & shows all how evil & bad they are but oh no slave mom is the badA fire & forget that drukhari are absolutely well aware they're evil & love it, now they run from it. what a garbage story. VA was ok but I personally don't like this guy, J Reynold would have been better. skip it unless you want some shark marine specific stuff & Tyberos The red wake to have a cameo.

Terra is besieged. The outcome of the war lies on a knife edge. The Warmaster Horus’ bloody seven-year crusade has led to this – the cradle of humanity, where he is to kill his father, the Emperor. With the war at this critical juncture, Sanguinius, primarch of the loyalist Blood Angels, braves the horrors of the Warmaster’s flagship, The Vengeful Spirit, with a single purpose in mind – to slay his brother Horus, decapitate the Heresy once and for all, and stop the forces of Chaos from taking Terra.

Overall good, especially the last 3rd but it take far to long & needed less malcador dramatically explaining events againt & again, more focus on everything happening on vengeful spirit. way to much padding but still a fun read.

Potential but serious writing problems.

I enjoyed the book, I really want to like it's story. the theme is interesting as it's pretty much vampire the masquerade post apocalypse. The performance was fantastic, dramatic, tense & emotional. the production was great too. However ( spoilers so stop now unless you don't mind) the main character is a massive merry sue, every female is a merry sue. they are all in positions of power, every male is made out to be an idiot, massively flawed or a coward besides jeb who take up little until the end. This book reads like a teen girls fan fiction. not as bad as twilight but seriously? the one time an overlord needs to feed ( 1 of 3 vampire hybrids which they need to feed once every couple of months) & it happens not only to me the main character but she is the F*** chosen one with the ONE & ONLY power to kill the Queen of vampires?! She never fails besides being a huge B*** to her sister & cowardly BF. she has no flaws. I though once she turned there would be some genuine nuance but nope. also the ending was one of THE MOST selfish things I've heard, F family & friends, lets go out on an adventure while everyone you grew up with the past seven years thinks you're dead. Again I want to like this book, the setting has potential but Author, this is your fault, learn how to write characters.

Story
Of all the Emperor’s sons who fell to Chaos, it is perhaps Magnus the Red whose tale is the most tragic. Sanctioned because of his desire for knowledge, chastised, judged, and shattered to his very elements – there is much for the Crimson King to feel vengeful for. Yet revenge is not the only thing that draws him to Terra alongside the Warmaster’s besieging armies. He seeks something, a fragment, the missing piece of himself that lies within the most impregnable place on the planet – the inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace.

I liked the concept for this 2021 simulator, however there is no conflict besides two characters who leave just as fast as they're introduced. I find it upsetting how much waisted potential there is, not to say it isn't an enjoyable listen but convince floods this book & it gets annoying quickly how easily every "problem" gets fixed. if Disney made a post-apocolype "survival" movie, this book would be it.

an insight into the necrons & ridiculous fun.
Reviewed: 10-19-20
Finally a book that barley has humans in it, this needs to happen more often. The books really fleshed out the necrons, their society & history. The feud between our two protagonists is believable & enjoyable to watch. this isn't a serious read like literally every books with SM & it's refreshing. The final battle is avengers endgame levels of absurd but it's alot of fun. anyone who is interested in necrons or wants a less "Doom & gloom, GrImDaRk, everything sucks" story should check this one out.
