ALL BONES AND NO MEAT

Generally when a book is tolerable I don’t provide a review. However, this time I feel bound to save my fellow listeners. I would be upset if it were not a boxed set. The books are a good first draft. The characters are barely developed. There is no real emotion and the settings are poorly described. The writing is so basic that the narrator could only read aloud so he would be paid. For me, the 20 plus hours did not compensate for the sketchy plot and weak characters. Just swipe on by….

Story
Still reeling from a personal tragedy, investigative journalist Rooker Lindström finds a grim hideaway from the world. It’s the dilapidated cabin on Minnesota’s Deer Lake bequeathed to him by his late father—one of the most notorious serial killers in the state. If the walls of this murder house could talk, they’d scream. Detective Tess Harlow needs something from Rooker only he can provide: a window into the mind of a murderer. A copycat is on the prowl, following in the footsteps of Rooker’s father.

Unlike any serial killer story I’ve ever listened to or read. I appreciated the restraint on bad language. Great performance. Rated it a four because it was so sinister it left me speechless and sad that so many could be so down right evil. I highly recommend!! Now I must read something with humor.

Very few books prompt a review from me. This monograph is engaging. The narrator is excellent in each voice. Obviously a great editor. Many twists generated by the investigator. I enjoyed it and will try other works by this author and narrator.

This book kept me up until 3:00 AM! It flowed so well. I actually liked the accents. The manner of speaking was still American.
Family dynamics were great without getting bogged down and over descriptive. I’m am recommending to my mom and friends that like mysteries.
Riley reminded me of Harry Bosch. This book made up for all the wasted credits I have spent this year. I hope book two is as good. I listened at the 1.25 speed.

Even in a small town the complexities of humanity from individuality to cultural norms impact numerous lives simultaneously. This novel demonstrates the knowns, the unknowns, the known unknowns and even the unknown unknowns.
Great narrative and narration. Skillful switching between the past and present. Good mystery!

Great new voice. Not necessary to read the first book. Excellent narration with goon men and women voices. I loved how he was able to depict the culture within the culture of each race. The book shows great deductive and inductive reasoning. Looking forward to next book in series as their lives continue and each character grows.

Good depth of characters. Depicts the crazy political and selfish world of today. While the author over used the word grimace and the reader mispronounced it, I could overlook the blunder because the story outshined the error.
