Eh. Plodding story with lots of details, basic characters, not bad mystery. Decent listen but not remarkable. The recording included some added sound effects and a little music, plus, obviously, a female reading the female parts and a male for the male parts. The female reader was 10 times more able to create different voices and do emotion.

Story
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Then trial by fire to life of meaning
Reviewed: 07-21-17
I only knew of Trevor Noah from some clips of his show on FB, which impressed me with their witty and insightful commentaries. I decided his delivery, including his accent, was enough to make me want to know more, so I got the book. I was rewarded with all the wit, insight and accent I'd already heard and then some! We all have a life story, and people who grow up and out of adversity may be more interesting inherently, but Trevor really delivers in terms of good read by intertwining life lessons with the political/social surroundings he grew up in. But the theme of growing up is universal and Trevor delivers in this way too; you will definitely recall your own similar shenanigans and poor decisions. His mother, who is a well-developed character here, is a testament to Motherhood and, genetically and supportively, the bedrock for the (seemingly) decent person Trevor has become. Advice: The story is told more by content than chronology, so don't spend time trying to figure out when things in his young life happen; it is not necessary for getting the full impact of the ideas.

Story
After five years on the run, Court Gentry is back on the inside at the CIA. But his first mission makes him wish he had stayed on the outs when a pair of Chinese agents try to take him down in Hong Kong. Normally the Chinese prefer to stay eyes-only on foreign agents. So why are they on such high alert? Court's high stakes hunt for answers takes him across Southeast Asia and leads to his old friend, Donald Fitzroy, who is being held hostage by the Chinese.

For what it is. I never give 5 stars unless a booked rocked my world. I enjoyed this as much as I did The Grey Man. However it had a lot more "how is he going to get outta this one" moments with a lot less interesting story parts for the first half. Eventually the story becomes more interesting.

Story
Racehorses with Tourette's syndrome, spinning dogs with epilepsy, cats with obsessive-compulsive disorder, feather-plucking parrots with anxiety, and a diffident bull terrier with autism - these astonishing cases were all helped by One Medicine, which emphasizes the similarities, rather than differences, between animals and humans. Inspiring, sometimes heartbreaking, and utterly fascinating, Pets on the Couch demonstrates how what we share with our animals can only lead us to a greater appreciation for them - and for our mutual bonds.

A must read
Reviewed: 04-07-17
Dr. Dodman recalls important cases over his career that highlight the need to consider how science has helped us learn about animals and how animals have helped advance science that can help people. It is recounted in an eloquent, poetic way that is holistic and emotionally moving as it is based in science. A dangerous zone usually, he traverses it with ease. If you are at all interested in behavior and/or behavioral pharmacology, this is a must read, even if, maybe especially if, you are heavy into the science of it all.

Story
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

I can't give this book 4 stars because I only give that to books that are, to me, way above average (reserving 5 stars for outstanding, life-changing) but I did enjoy listening to it. James Bond meets sci-fi, with the sci-if being of the sort that makes you think about societal ethics and norms rather than about science and mechanical things. Lots to think about in terms of what makes you you, as bodies are exchangeable and virtual at times. Reader is superb except he doesn't do women's voices too well. Also enough sex scenes to make a romance reader happy. Explicit, not gratuitous, not rape. Although a great story, well written, nothing more unusual than typical try to figure out who the bad guy is and how to get him/her. The writing itself is better than average, really puts you there. Enjoy!

No emotion, drama, epic-ness. No Jedi, no Darth Vader. Just political maneuvering, talking. A big so what. Yes, it sets up for the Rogue One movie. When I see that I'll see if this book was worth it. I suspect it will give slightly more depth to a few characters but that's all.

Story
How much can we know about the world? In this audiobook physicist Marcelo Gleiser traces our search for answers to the most fundamental questions of existence, the origin of the universe, the nature of reality, and the limits of knowledge. In so doing he reaches a provocative conclusion: Science, like religion, is fundamentally limited as a tool for understanding the world. As science and its philosophical interpretations advance, we face the unsettling recognition of how much we don't know.

I am not a scientist. I got this book specifically because it sounded like it would explain things in layman's terms, which it did. It is chock full of things that make you think about how you know what you know. The content is well organized into chapters dealing with various areas of questions. I especially liked the history of scientific thinking in the first chapter because it reminds us that we always font know something. I had thought the book would be about limits such as why we can'it predict human behavior or why medications (and other life things) effect each body a little differently, but it was only about the mathematical and physical limits such as the event horizon of the Big Bang. I still loved learning about anyway.

Story
For the handful of scattered Jedi, survival is imperative if the light side of the Force is to be protected and the galaxy somehow, someday reclaimed. Yet more important still is the well-being of the twin infants, Leia and Luke Skywalker, the children of Anakin and his doomed bride, Padme Amidala. Separated after Padme's death, they must be made safe at all costs, lest the hope they represent for the future be turned to horror by the new Sith regime, and the unspeakable power of the dark side.

I am a sci fi reader who watched the original Star Wars when it came out but I am not a person who reads all these Star Wars universe books. However, one day, after seeing The Force Awakens,I needed a Star Wars fix and I found this one. I had always wanted to know how Anakin felt after becoming Darth, and this book gave satisfying insight into his psychological and emotional state. The rest of the story and action was as good as any of the movies. I just might try some more of these books!
