Story
Meister Eckhart was a medieval Christian mystic whose wisdom powerfully appeals to seekers seven centuries after his death. In the modern era, Eckhart's writings have struck a chord with thinkers as diverse as Heidegger, Merton, Sartre, John Paul II, and the current Dalai Lama. He is the inspiration for the best-selling New Age author Eckhart Tolle's pen name, and his 14th-century quotes have become an online sensation. Today, a variety of Christians, as well as many Zen Buddhists, Sufi Muslims, Jewish Cabbalists, and various spiritual seekers, all claim Eckhart as their own.

A fuller picture of the Meister
Reviewed: 07-18-20
Meister Eckhart is often quoted (in my readings on Perennialism, etc) but I wanted a more direct understanding of his life and his thinking. This book was enormously helpful in that regard. It’s a well researched and very well written account of this important and influential figure. Time spent listening to this information was well worth it for me - and enjoyable to boot.

Story
Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.

What an amazing book! A fascinating subject addressed so thoroughly by a knowledgeable author who draws on diverse texts to illustrate his points in a beautifully measured and succinct writing style, all expressed by narrations that are absolutely excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book (and I own the hardcover as well). Thank you JC and the JC Foundation.

I couldn’t follow the writer’s style
Reviewed: 07-12-19
Try as hard as I have, I just can’t follow this writer’s style - in audio. I think it’s his sentence structure. Way too many clauses and qualifiers bury the core of every sentence. I love Jung’s work but I just can’t follow this author.

A beautiful story and well pitched performance
Reviewed: 05-10-19
I almost didn't purchase this audiobook after reading one of the reviews complaining about the performance being too flat or something to that effect. Never-the-less I did purchase the book and just finished listening to it entirely. For the entire story I found the performance absolutely fine. There was just enough dramatic effect to reinforce the story without distracting from it. I understand how some people might think that the breathy and low-tone delivery might be misunderstood as understated. I didn't see it that way. I thought it played in perfectly with the mood of behind-enemy-lines dialog. I enjoyed the performance and loved the story. I love how Hemingway allows his characters to face death and tell about it, in all their different ways. It was a wonderful story and I'm sure the characters will go on living with me.
