He could have been my hero. He saved my life that night, a beautiful dark angel slicing through my fear and the water, dragging me from its deadly clutches. He should have been my hero. I thought maybe he was.

Dare is Dark and Sam Mariano is Amazing
Reviewed: 06-22-23
I love Sam Mariano. Her books are dark, but I know that going in. It's dark romance, and it is good. Her books pull you along. I never have a desire to take a break. I just want to keep reading/listening. I wish she would release all of her books in audio format. I'm reading Sophie's Surrender now. Haven't re encountered Dare yet, but I know it's coming and I'm looking forward to experiencing the stories back to back, even if one is on audible and the other on my Kindle.
The narration is PERFECT! It couldn't have been better. Both of the narrator's were new to me, so I was worried, but Sam did a great job selecting the ideal narrators for this story. They read well, emoted well and the pacing was exactly right. It was narrated duet style, which is tricky. They pulled it off with a fabulous end result!!

Story
After a bad breakup, Nola wants nothing to do with Christmas, especially in her quaint hometown of Bright Harbor, Maine. Infuriatingly charming and cheery, Nola’s surroundings only worsen her sour mood. To make matters worse, Caleb, the boy who broke her heart years ago, is all grown up and still living in town. While doing her best to avoid him, Nola bumps into the local mailman, who gives her a mysterious letter. And when she finds that the writer is a fellow Scrooge, she can’t help but feel her spirit lifting.

Excellent!

This Christmas story actually had the season as a near constant backdrop. I’ve listened to a lot of Christmas books that giving a passing nod to the season, but really could have taken place anytime. Since I use the stories to try to boost that Christmas feeling, I’m often disappointed. Not with this story. It’s quick, but great! No spice, but very sweet. I usually don’t like squeaky clean books, but this one was enjoyable. Narrated were perfect!

Story
Greg Jones, mechanic for the Chosen Few MC, isn't looking for a relationship. After burying his beloved wife years ago, he expects to spend the rest of his life alone. But Melanie Wilford, his niece's hot, brilliant teacher, makes him hunger for things he'd long ago forgotten. Melanie thinks teaching seventh grade is plenty exciting enough - she's not the thrill-seeking type. An outlaw biker, even one as hunky as Greg, is not the kind of man she's imagined herself with.

My Kind of MC Read!
Reviewed: 09-09-16
Nice read! It was much less gritty than most MC books and I liked that. I'm not a huge fan of the seamier nature of many MC books. This one was perfect! The main characters had great chemistry and the story was satisfying. I thought the narrator did a good job although his volume wasn't consistent. I kept having to adjust the volume and go back to "relisten" to segments. Still, his voice was great and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Story
Needing an escape from her past, Avery chooses a college where no one knows her. Keeping a low profile was the plan, falling for the intense frat boy, Jase wasn't. Yet she can't deny how alive she feels when he's near. Even as common sense implores her to stay away, her body begs her to get closer. Jase, numb from his own family drama, has grown bored with weekends fueled by nameless girls and countless bottles when he meets Avery. Helping her cope with her past is better than dealing with the bullshit his own life's served up.

Narrator Needs to Rethink Her Career Choice

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No. The story was good so I powered through, but I was CONSTANTLY aware of and distracted by the narration. I feel badly for the author because although the story was enjoyable, I wouldn't recommend this audiobook to anyone.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator may have speech or reading issues. Each and every sentence was blurted out with constant hard pauses where they didn't belong. EVERY SENTENCE. It was torturous! Many simple words were mispronounced. I'm wondering if anyone even listened to the narration during the production of this audiobook. Quality control anyone? The narrator has a nice sounding voice and probably sounds lovely if you're having a conversation with her, but she just can't read out loud.
