Story
My one piece of advice: Never kiss a stranger. See, I kind of kissed this sexy man at the bar on a dare once, and it turns out he’s a Royal Fae destined to be my mate. Now I’ve been dragged to the Elemental Fae Academy to control the powers I unlocked that night.

I like hearing the story told with separate voices for each character.

This would have been half as long if it weren't for all the sex!

I bought this set because it was on sale. I like longer books/series. That was a plus. I was only going to give it 3 stars, but it does merit 4.
If you like reverse-harem stories, this is definitely for you! if not, don't bother. I don't care much for them, but the underlying story/premise and world/character-building were strong enough to keep me listening.
I don't care for the voice actor narrating Claire. Claire shouldn't sound like some simpering damsel in distress or clueless vapid blonde. She should be bold...that perfect enunciation totally got on my nerves...gramatically correct even when being serviced by all her mates and coming out of her mind, really?

Story
Ever since a man was found dead in Vera's teahouse, life has been good. For Vera that is. She’s surrounded by loved ones, her shop is bustling, and best of all, her son, Tilly, has a girlfriend! All thanks to Vera, because Tilly's girlfriend is none other than Officer Selena Gray. The very same Officer Gray that she had harassed while investigating the teahouse murder. Still, Vera wishes more dead bodies would pop up in her shop, but one mustn't be ungrateful, even if one is slightly...bored.

I like everything about Vera! The world would be a better place with more Veras in it. She is brash, bold, confident, speaks her mind, and a force or nature...she has stick-to-it-ivity and won't let herself be dissuaded once she is on the trail. I like the way she accepts everyone as they are and invites them into her sphere and once you are in her orbit, her gravitational force keeps you there.

A barely employed tech worker has never felt they belonged. Not in society, not even in their own family. Their days are filled with loneliness, a struggle to survive and a desperate search for connection—even if that connection is merely virtual. Now, a black-market hacker promises to open a new world for them, and it works—in ways no human has ever experienced. They find a world of wonder, of possibilities and of danger—where their new virtual reality could mean the end of their physical reality. And what they discover could change the fate of humankind—forever.

She calls herself Calexa Rose Dunhill - names taken from the grim surroundings where she awoke, bruised and bloody, with no memory of who she is, how she got there, or who left her for dead. She has made the cemetery her home, living in a crypt and avoiding human contact. But Calexa can’t hide from the dead - and because she can see spirits, they can’t hide from her. Then one night, Calexa spies a group of teenagers vandalizing a grave - and watches in horror as they commit murder.

Interesting, just not into dramatizations
Reviewed: 02-21-25
It took me a while to warm up to audio books. I enjoyed printed reads because I could build worlds with the authors' stories based on what I envisioned. Then I figured out that I can multitask and still enjoy a good story having someone read it to me...I while the narrator does color what my mind conjures, it is still mostly mine....
...that said, the dramatized version really doesn't allow me to do that. It really is a movie for my mind because everything is sort of dictated on how the person directing (?) the performance sees it.
I generally do not select the dramatized version, but this wasn't available as a regular audio book.
That said, it was an ok story and had some twists and turns.
if you are into the drama of having a movie play in your mind by way of an audio book. then this is definitely not for you.
I didn't like the lengthy interview at the end at all. The good thing: I didn't have to listen to it. Had it been more about the Cemetary Girl, I would have.

love the premise of the story and the characters. I used to not like audio books, but have come to love then. In this series, Julia Gibson captures Lily's attitude perfectly.
