Story
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

It was a riveting story, especially the in country portion (part 1). Loved most of the characters and seeing the world through their eyes. The narration was excellent.

Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Like - Ms Cheney’s courage and patriotism, especially her willingness to sacrifice her political career to defend the United States against authoritarian terrorists and politicians so addicted to power that they are willing to disregard facts and the Constitution. Please keep up the good fight Liz. We need to take back our country! I am a news junkie, but I still learned much I did not know reading this book.
Dislikes - that the current GOP has made this conversation necessary.

An interesting and fun story
Reviewed: 07-27-22
I thought the characters were pretty were well developed and the descriptions were vivid. It is an adventurous, feel good story - and we need more of those.
The only thing that was rather unrealistic is not a mention of how rank the Giraffe trailer would have become within a day or two as the animals peed and pooped. Knowing well of this from modern horse hauling over long distances, the complete silence on this logistical matter made the story less realistic.

Story
At the height of World War II, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was home to 75,000 residents, consuming more electricity than New York City. But to most of the world, the town did not exist. Thousands of civilians - many of them young women from small towns across the South - were recruited to this secret city, enticed by solid wages and the promise of war-ending work. Kept very much in the dark, few would ever guess the true nature of the tasks they performed each day in the hulking factories in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.

Good story, but unrealistic
Reviewed: 12-11-21
I enjoyed the story and the characters were developed well. However, I did not like how the abusive men kept finding the women at the key points in the journey. That seemed very unrealistic given the miles and difficulty of the journey. I live near City of Rocks, so it was nice to hear that included.

Story
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

We enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The real life characters were amazing, and we learned so much about what it e was like in war time Germany. It was inspiring how good men reacted to the terror and oppression of the Nazis, and still managed to maintain their dignity and honor. The book was superbly read, and it provides a good lesson to follow today: treat all people with kindness and reject extremism.
