Story
God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

Plodding through the pages

TBH, this story was very hard to follow and believe how a character this young could be portrayed like a 50 year old. Lots of putting it down and then restarting for me to read it. Finally I decided to finished it as it was expiring off Audible plus catalog.
I’m glad they finally made it to the place to create the new community, but feel everything positive will have to be destroyed over and over to play out Butler’s view of humanity.

Story
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

Immersion in communal Japanese feudal governance and society
Reviewed: 04-23-24
Reading this I was submerged in appreciation of the immense beauty, harmony and brutality of this culture. May this fascination with communal society and feudalism hasten the death of capitalism and wisely inform our entrance into technofeudalism.

The journey is long and the hope is real. Interesting twists as this story turns metaphor and brings our struggles into perspective.

Such important and under discussed ideas in here. Wisdom that we all can agree on. A common ground that empowers the reader to find their voice naturally and effortlessly. Pull the stops out of your way yourself by just being honest, what do you really have to gain by looking away from what is? This isn’t a dress rehearsal.
