Story
The New York Times bestselling author of the Six Tudor Queens series explores the private side of the legendary king Henry VIII and his dramatic and violent reign in this extraordinary historical novel. Young Henry began his rule as a magnificent and chivalrous Renaissance prince who embodied every virtue. He had all the qualities to make a triumph of his rule, yet we remember only the violence. Henry famously broke with the Pope, founding the Church of England and launching a religious revolution that divided his kingdom. He beheaded two of his wives and cast aside two others.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

I liked the story even though the ending was simplistic and lacked imagination. I liked this author's work well enough to read another one she has written.

The Chameleon
Reviewed: 06-23-24
Every time I read a novel written by Wally Lamb, I am always so impressed with his characters. If he is writing about a woman, he becomes a woman. He knows how we think, what we think & if we think.
He builds a story so perfectly, much like an architect draws out a large home then a meticulous builder takes that drawing and builds the exact structure he sees on the blueprint.
If that wasn’t enough, he weaves a story catching threads of every character. To top that off he makes me laugh and cry and feel completely absorbed. I am so grateful for Wally Lamb’s talent and what must be very hard work.
It’s like dancing backwards in high heels, only more difficult.
Thank you Mr. Lamb.

Story
Being on the murder squad is nothing like Detective Antoinette Conway dreamed it would be. Her partner, Stephen Moran, is the only person who seems glad she's there. The rest of her working life is a stream of thankless cases, vicious pranks, and harassment. Antoinette is savagely tough, but she's getting close to the breaking point. Their new case looks like yet another by-the-numbers lovers' quarrel gone bad. Aislinn Murray is blond, pretty, groomed to a shine, and dead in her catalogue-perfect living room, next to a table set for a romantic dinner.

Story
Summer is coming to a close on the East End of Long Island, and Alex is no longer welcome. A misstep at a dinner party, and the older man she’s been staying with dismisses her with a ride to the train station and a ticket back to the city. With few resources and a waterlogged phone, but gifted with an ability to navigate the desires of others, Alex stays on Long Island and drifts like a ghost through the hedged lanes, gated driveways, and sun-blasted dunes of a rarefied world that is, at first, closed to her.

Eighteen-year-old Shelley, born into a much-despised branch of the Zheng family in Yunnan Province and living in the shadow of his widowed father’s grief, dreams of bigger things. Buoyed by an exuberant heart and his cousin Deng’s tall tales about the United States, Shelley heads to San Francisco to claim his destiny, confident that any hurdles will be easily overcome by the awesome powers of the “Chinese groove,” a belief in the unspoken bonds between countrymen that transcend time and borders.

In The Signature of All Things, Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction, inserting her inimitable voice into an enthralling story of love, adventure and discovery. Spanning much of the 18th and 19th centuries, the novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittaker family as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker - a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia.

Unfortunately this wonderful novel, read by one of the best narrators I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, ends!
I loved this book so much I immediately started listening again. This is the real beauty of, Audible, unlike a popular book that is constantly on hold with a long list of waiting listeners from the library.
This Audible book is mine to listen to as many times as I wish and exactly when I want to.

I enjoyed this story very much. I felt like since a former president co-wrote the story that the facts about the Government and how it operates were probably factual.
