Story
When globe-hopping British First Secretary Peter Darwin returns to his childhood home for a visit, he is sorry. Waiting for him were long-hidden memories, a string of racehorse deaths and homicide. As Darwin begins to realize that the key to all of it involves his own past, he wishes he'd never come back, because he just might never leave again—alive.

Veterinarians, horses mysteriously dying!
Reviewed: 10-01-23
A new avenue for Dick Francis…the main character is a man from the Foreign Office who helps a couple who were mugged. This takes them to England and meeting the vets. A mystery from the past gets inexplicably intertwined with the mystery in the present—the inexplicable dying of horses at the vets hospital.

Story
The Vanderbeekers have always lived in the brownstone on 141st Street. It's practically another member of the family. So when their reclusive, curmudgeonly landlord decides not to renew their lease, the five siblings have 11 days to do whatever it takes to stay in their beloved home and convince the dreaded Beiderman just how wonderful they are. And all is fair in love and war when it comes to keeping their home. A modern classic in the making reminiscent of the Penderwicks series.

I loved Simon Prebble’s reading! Bolt has suspense and mystery. One thing I love about Dick Francis’s writing is that he usually has two or more storylines and Bolt does as well. I have re-listened to this book several times.

I love this book—Dick Francis gets into the whodunnit territory here when a skeleton is found. I like the main character a lot who is trying to write a sequel to a novel. Previously he had been writing “How to Survive” in various travel destinations. I love the interactions and dynamics going on between the circle of friends. Will the untoward happenings cause irreparable damage to the close knit circle of friends? You’ll need to listen to find out! 😁

Story
Transported from the mid-twentieth century to New York City in the year 1882, Si Morley walks the fashionable "Ladies' Mile" of Broadway, is enchanted by the jingling sleigh bells in Central Park, and solves a 20th-century mystery by discovering its 19th-century roots. Falling in love with a beautiful young woman, he ultimately finds himself forced to choose between his lives in the present and the past. A story that will remain in the listener's memory, Time and Again is a remarkable blending of the troubled present and a nostalgic past....

I love Paul Hecht's narration and the whole premise of this story. I listen to it once or twice a year. I like the time travel paradox it just touched on and how he helps make things right at the end....in itself a change with who knows how many ripples felt it? I like that Sy ended up with Julia and decided to live in her time.

Story
A country girl named Polly is visiting city friends and comes to realize that this world is quite different than which she has left. Here people are judged according to their dress and manner of speech rather than for their honesty and hard work. Yet all who meet Polly cannot help but be enamored of her; her sweet simplicity is unlike any that they have ever seen, and soon everyone comes to realize that Polly is not someone to be laughed at and ridiculed, but someone to put upon a pedestal for failing to become willing prey to the cynicism of the times.

A Revisit of a Childhood Favorite!
Reviewed: 04-13-15
I was excited to find this childhood favorite in Audible's catalog! I enjoyed listening to it. I enjoyed the narrator's regular reading voice, but didn't like the southern accents she put on for the characters voices. It wasn't how I imagined Polly, Fanny, Tom or anyone else talked. Sometimes it was a stronger accent than others and I even became so irritated at times that I stopped listening and switched to a different book for a while to give my ears a rest. I did finish listening and still love the story very much!
