The narrator was terrific! And when I found out who it was I liked it even more!

I appreciated the documentation of the reportage very much. It helped to establish how the story progressed and what happened when so that I could gain perspective on these events that happened so fast in real time.

Story
Just the Funny Parts is a juicy and scathingly funny insider look at how pop culture gets made. For more than 30 years, writer, producer, and director Nell Scovell worked behind the scenes of iconic TV shows, including The Simpsons, Late Night with David Letterman, Murphy Brown, NCIS, The Muppets, and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, which she created and executive produced. In 2009, Scovell gave up her behind-the-scenes status when the David Letterman sex scandal broke.

I love this book and it’s author!

From its well chosen title to the deeply heartfelt tribute to a wise and funny mentor this book kept me company like a beloved funny sister. I laughed, I cried and now applaud Nell for sharing her brilliant life. I found so much to learn in it! I might have enjoyed it even more had the author read it herself.

Story
In Men Explain Things to Me, Rebecca Solnit takes on the conversations between men who wrongly assume they know things and wrongly assume women don't. The ultimate problem, she shows in her comic, scathing essay, is female self-doubt and the silencing of women. Rebecca Solnit is the author of fourteen books about civil society, popular power, uprisings, art, environment, place, pleasure, politics, hope, and memory, most recently The Faraway Nearby, a book on empathy and storytelling.

It was like the reader had no contact with the subject matter. She robotically read the most alarming horrifying and tragic events as if she was announcing new breakfast items sounding abnormally cheerful while reporting the worst things that could ever happen to a woman

Brilliant, knowledgable and highly readable!

This book, based on the author's decades of experience counseling those who abuse their intimate partners, addresses every possible issue in this area, a still little-understood problem that is responsible for the many millions of injuries and even deaths of women and children every year, according to reliable medical studies which the author sites in the book for those who would like to pursue further research. Authoritative, comprehensive and readable, this book makes accessible to all the causes, patterns and outcomes of family violence, emotional, legal and societal, and both explains and explodes the myths surrounding the subject which have hampered the efforts of families, therapists, medical personnel and legal experts in their well meaning but ineffective attempts to define and solve this, the primary cause of the violence in our families. Addressing both the causes and effects of what has been called 'toxic masculinity', the author leaves nothing and no one out in this very basic and complete survey of the number 1 problem in every family and every society in modern life. As both a survivor and an attorney with over forty years of study and experience in this field, I recommend this book, as well as the audible version, as the beginning, middle and end of the subject that has been at the root of the most dangerous and frightening aspects of our culture for generations while no one knew how to speak of it for most of that time. Here at last is the information we have all needed to begin to finally solve this almost universal cause of the wounds from which most of us suffer directly or indirectly.
